If you ever had to pick an accent, what would it be?

Asked by megzybrahh123 (523points) July 22nd, 2011

If I had to pick an accent I would like to have an Irish accent so that I could say “did la di potatoes”.

Accent that is used by certain black people (still learning to use it). No offense intended. I think Italian accent also worth the try. Of course, I’m using broad generalization here, I won’t bother go specifically as people of the same region could have different accents and it won’t go through the trouble for complicated specific accents.

TexasDude's avatar

I’m happy with my sweet southern twang.

AshLeigh's avatar

Haha. I’m fine with my “Fake” English Accent.
Everyone says I sound like I’m speaking with a fake English accent. But I’m not. It’s just the accent I’ve always had. I don’t know where it came from, because my hole family has the regular Alaskan way of speaking…

Bellatrix's avatar

I’m fine with my own accent. It is a fairly nondescript Northern English accent.

pashley_108's avatar

I have a wog accent lol always wanted an English accent though :D

Bellatrix's avatar

A wog accent? What’s that?

pashley_108's avatar

Its not Italian Megan I’m not Italian… :S well I have wog in me and I talk like one soo yeah hahah

Bellatrix's avatar

The reason I ask is ‘wog’ means different things in different places (it isn’t a polite term anywhere). In Australia a wog is someone from Greece, Italy, Croatia etc. In say Britain, it would mean a person who wasn’t white. Hence, I was surprised to read it.

Thank you for welcoming us as well :)

Bellatrix's avatar

You aren’t allowed to use text speak. You have to use correct English here. I suspect that’s why you were modded. It is nice to meet you anyway.

pashley_108's avatar

Omg omg omg I want a German accent, I realized that to..

megzybrahh123's avatar

Hibernate's avatar

I’d go with an Irish accent or Jamaican.

AshLeigh's avatar

Yay for having an English accent, when you’ve never been to England, or been around anyone who has one… :D:D:D
Unexplainable accents, FTW. ;)

pashley_108's avatar

@Hibernate I love Jamaican accents.

Hibernate's avatar

@AshLeigh but if you listen to music or watch movies with those accents you can start practicing them. It’s not hard.

rooeytoo's avatar

I would like to sound more Aussie, I am so tired of people asking me if I am canadian. To which I always respond, “Hell no, I am a bloody yank and proud of it!” But I am aussie now and want to sound like it. I do call a tomato, a toe mah toe now, so that is good!

nailpolishfanatic's avatar

The African accent. Not the Nigerian one…. idk if yall know what I am talkig bout.
But yeah the african accent or should I say the “zambian accent” that I already have or the English accent from London.

stardust's avatar

Either British (think Mariella Frostrup) or South African.

Bellatrix's avatar

@stardust I really like The Book Show with Mariella Frostrup. She does have a nice accent.

AshLeigh's avatar

@Hibernate,
I never practiced. It just came natural. My parents are still mind boggled about it. :) It’s silly.

aprilsimnel's avatar

I’d have an educated, middle-class Oxbridge sort of accent. I can kind of pull it off already.

Oi need ‘Enry ‘Iggins, eh? Ta teach me ta moind me Ps ‘n’ Qs, loike!

Hibernate's avatar

Close enough to a redneck but I like those :D

LuckyGuy's avatar

I’m the only person in the world without an accent. Everyone else has one.

poisonedantidote's avatar

Half sexy blonde bimbo, half Pakistani terrorist, not just Pakistani, I mean Pakistani terrorist, it is 3.2 times more angry sounding.

“happy birthday mr president, happy birthday… Ahlla! boom”

filmfann's avatar

@poisonedantidote You should do a full dress rehersal first.

I would love a french accent. Most of the women I am attracted to love guys with that accent.

LuckyGuy's avatar

I’m telling you, everyone here sounds just like me! Try it. Reread the first sentence. See? No accent.

El_Cadejo's avatar

English or Russian

OpryLeigh's avatar

I want Barbra Streisand’s accent!

bobbinhood's avatar

A Scottish accent would be nice.

Ron_C's avatar

I would like a Canadian/Jamaican accent. Yeah mon, eh!

Fly's avatar

French, or African French. I especially love the sounds of said accents when they are used to speak English, for some reason.

El_Cadejo's avatar

Is there such a thing as a Morgan Freeman accent? If so I want that :P Everything I’d say from that point on would be pretty fucking epic.

Facade's avatar

I think a French accent would suit me well

leopardgecko123's avatar

I have a Texas accent, but I’m not like those old western cowboys in the movies. But, yeah, I like my accent, although I think it would be kind of cool to talk with an English accent or something like Pooh bear because he talks so improperly proper!

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

I can’t decide between English, Irish or Scottish. I currently have some sort of American accent; although I’m born and raised in Texas, a lot of people tell me they don’t hear a “typical Texas twang” when I speak.

Faidle's avatar

I would totally steal my cousin, @AshLeigh‘s weird, random accent. :)
It’s delightful.
I plan to find a way to steal her voice from her… Any ideas? Disect her brain?

AshLeigh's avatar

@Faidle… Please don’t disect my brain…

Berserker's avatar

I’d totally love to have a Romanian accent so that when I invited anyone over, I could so creep em all out by saying ’‘welcome’’.

laineybug's avatar

I would like to have an English or Irish accent, but sometimes I notice myself talking with a sort of West Virginia sounding accent. I’m not around people with that accent very often though.

the100thmonkey's avatar

I quite like my posh-sounding Scottish Standard English. Other native English speakers seem to like it; but sadly very few people notice the distinctions here in Japan.

Apart from that, I love the US southern drawls (especially when women have one; it’s sexy), but I’m not sure if I’d like to be producing it myself (I’m not a woman).

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

@the100thmonkey You like southern accents? Awwww, bless your heart! Can I git you some apple pie?

Bellatrix's avatar

Lol @WillWorkForChocolate‘s new avatar.. that is so funny! Wonder what accent that would speak with if it had an accent.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

@Bellatrix He speaks an odddly charming combination of Portugese and Gaelic.

Bellatrix's avatar

Nice! Sounds like a sexy accent. My cat has a French accent.
