Have you ever seen the programme 'Somewhere Street' produced by NHK Japan?

Asked by flutherother (34519points) July 27th, 2011

The programme’s narrator wanders through the streets of a city or town with an HD camera all day seeing the sights and speaking to the people who live and work there. It is the closest thing to actually visiting a city in person that I know. It is a very quirky little programme but I love it and wondered if you have ever seen it and what you think of it.

You can find out how to watch NHK World TV here. If you are in the UK and get Sky Somewhere Street is on this Saturday on channels 507 and 518 and will be visiting Lausanne in Switzerland.

Yes, saw Helsinki – gives a great feeling of having been there (I haven’t).

I saw Helsinki too, it looks great in HD and as you say it does feel as if you are there exploring the streets. I wonder how they make the camera so unobtrusive. I love the commentary. Did you hear her asking the stallholder what the green vegetables were. She can never have seen peas in a pod before.

Yes, it is a fantastic program, in fact my favorite travel program. I wish one could watch the programs online or get them on DVD. I’m in Delaware, USA.
