Possible? Yes, with a radical reorganization of where we get our energy from and many of the materials used for manufacturing.

Is it likely? No, it’s too cheap to get many goods from overseas manufacturers where the costs of labor and materials are lower.

Probably not unless we are prepared to give up everything from diamonds to chocolate.

Do you have a source for where he said that? I can’t imagine it as it’s, well, pretty stupid, as far as I can see, so I’m curious as to his motivation for saying it.

I think not unless new inventions come up – the things we’ve come to expect and take for granted in modern America are derived from so many resources unavailable here e.g. I read about a metal ore (can’t remember the name for now) found only in the Democratic Republic of Congo that’s essential to the manufacture of cell phones and computers etc.

Are there any countries the same size or bigger than the US that are? Maybe in some ways, but I don’t think China or India are doing very jobs, and they’re considered one of two next big leaders.

Possible? Of course, we have the resources to do so.

Possible? Hell no, we’re way too greedy.
