Is hyperemesis gravidarum something that runs in families?

Asked by tan235 (877points) August 1st, 2011

I just found out my sister suffered this affliction whilst pregnant and ended up in hospital weeks on end on a drip.
What are the chances of this being genetic, or is it more individualized?
Does anyone know?
I have not had morning sickness yet (fingers crossed)
6 weeks.

Sorry for all my questions of late!

Apparently it does run in families, but that doesn’t mean that you will have it.
One of my 4 sisters had it, the rest of us did not.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!
