Recommendations for a good deep conditioner for dry, colored, curly hair?

Asked by flash74686 (478points) August 1st, 2011

I have very thick, very curly hair that’s naturally pretty dry (I get split ends all the time and don’t have to wash my hair but every few days), and it’s gotten even dryer since I started dyeing it about two years ago. I read somewhere that a weekly (or so) deep condition was good for curly/dry hair, so I was wondering if there are any professionals/people with personal experience who could recommend a good product, since I don’t know where to start.

If you also have any tips on actually using the conditioner (how often it should be used, how it should be applied, etc) those would also be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I like using a product called “Dap”. It’s a deep hair conditioner made in the U.S.A., made from vegetable oils, bergamot, olive oil, and lanolin. It’s great for dry hair that breaks at the ends. I love it because it controls my hair and keeps it in place while conditioning it and adding a nice shine. It smells nice too. I normally use Brylcreem, but I find Dap is a richer conditioner that fortifies your hair.

Maybe I should’ve specified that I’m a girl, looking for women’s conditioner. I know it’s hard to tell with the vague username and lack of photo :/

@flash74686: seriously… google Mayo as a conditioner. I’ve heard great things

@SamIAm I’ll keep that in mind, but I can’t imagine it would smell all that great. . .

Mayo is an emulsion of oil, vinegar and raw egg. I can see, possibly, using olive oil but vinegr and raw eggs? No thank-you.

It is very difficult to suggest a product for someone else without knowing the type of hair they have. There are many variables.

@flash74686 A lot of women use Dap. It’s not only for men.

Alfaparf. I know weird name, but it’s the BEST! I would do a blue vile treatment and get the color safe shampoo and conditioner. :)

I have an inexpensive and an expensive suggestion…

Australian 3 Minute Miracle. (Inexpensive and effective.)

If your top hair is normal/oily and your ends are split/dry…take some and saturated the ends and then take whatever residue is left and tap the remainder on your head.

If your hair is all dry (top to bottom) then use it a bit more liberally, but saturate the ends.

If you want to get it to penetrate the hair shaft more (this is a deep treatment) and want to spend a bit more money use Wella Mask link Buy yourself a heating cap (available online or at beauty supply shops) and leave it on for twenty minutes, then rinse out. You could use this twice a month as well as using the 3 Minute Miracle when you shampoo.
