Best lesbian fiction of the past decade?

Asked by desiree333 (3219points) August 4th, 2011

I am looking for young adult lesbian fiction. I haven’t read any yet, but am going to the bookstore tomorrow. I’m thinking about getting:
Same Sex in the City- Lauren Levin, Lauren Blitzer, Keeping You A Secret- Julie Anne Peters, 12. Love, Ellen: A Mother/Daughter Journey- Betty Degeneres, and The L Word Book-Jennifer Beals.

I am specifically looking for coming-out stories, and characters who are fairly young (teens, 20’s, and 30’s) if you can make any recommendations. If not, feel free to share what you have enjoyed. Oh and a small, short summary would be nice.

While I often think Ellen may be a figment of my fantasies imagination, I am pretty sure her mom’s book is non-fiction.

Does it have to be from the past decade? One of my fave books ever is Rubyfruit Jungle, which I read in Gay and Lesbian Lit. class in high school.

@Kayak8 Betty Degeneres’ biography was on the top of my list. I was very dissapointed whrn there was none in stock at Chapters. Whoops I should have mentioned that, I knew it was non-fiction.

@sliceswiththings I guess I would prefer it, but I guess as long as it is a good book, I’ll maybe give it a try. Thanks. You had a Gay and Lesbian lit. class in high school?? Wow.
