Is there a bit of FCC hypocrisy going on here, Justin Timberlake Super Bowl, vs. MTV Movie Awards?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) August 6th, 2011

There was Janet Jackson’s infamous wardrobe malfunction possible NSFW!, all 2 seconds of it, and there was an uproar, and the FCC was on the war path. Then you have Justin Timberlake again, providing a full-on grope possible NSFW!! of Mila Kunis’ breast, and no uproar, at least it didn’t make the evening news that I know of. So what gives? Is 1.5 seconds of pastie-covered breast more evil than 5 to 7 seconds of full-on clothed boob and crotch grabbing? It isn’t like MTV Movie Awards are broadcast at a time families and children would most likely miss. So why the uneven treatment?

Could it have something to do with the viewing time, rating of the show, and network? Maybe it’s not a big deal because the MTV awards are on a cable channel and it airs later at night. In other words, it’s less likely to have a younger audience. Sort of like the difference between what you see on NBC at 8 p.m. vs. what you see on HBO at 10 p.m.

I feel like more kids watch the Super Bowl than the MTV Movie Awards. Also, the context was different. It seems like a SNL skit.

Is that to say 18,000 kids who had a chance to see 1.5 second of a boob with a pasty, those who were not texting, in the head, or the kitchen grabbing a snack, is worse than having 5,000 kids seeing more than 5 seconds or more of full-on groping? Would kind of tell the kid groping the one you love is OK, but I remember some boys getting expelled from their school because they slapped some girls on their bum as a running joke everyone at that school did.

They’re in a movie together about being Friends with Benefits. completely different thing. I remember being in 6th grade running laps in PE and a boy named Robert running by and slapping me and my friend on the butt. I caught up with him and slapped the back of his head. We both got in trouble but eh.

I think the problem with the Super Bowl thing was the actual “ripping” of the clothes. People were saying it was violent and stuff.
