Any of you theatre and play experts out there?

Asked by QueenOfNowhere (1871points) August 6th, 2011

I need a monologue from a full length published play!
It has to be comedic since I already have the dramatic one. Must be contemporary.
Please help! I’m a young female. Not too “known and now very common to do” plays please.
If it has a french phrase in it, it would be awesome! (I doubt it though, lol that would be hard to find)

I often recommended to my acting students to also look outside of plays for monologues: short stories, essays, etc. Something to consider and often a valuable way to find pieces nobody else will be doing.

There is a scene in the movie “Addicted to Love” in which a french male actor performs a monologue about how he came to America, and became Superman.
Though it is a male part, you should be able to do it.

If you can go outside of strictly plays, as @crisedwards suggested, David Sedaris has some stories that would make great monologues for either sex. This one, Jesus Shaves takes place in a French class and he has several others about France and learning French.
