If you could do it all over again, would you?

Asked by sweetbee (290points) August 6th, 2011

Sometimes I wonder what things would have been like if I said yes or no to a question. Or if I didn’t go left I went right. Do you think if you could (insert voice of Cher) turn back time you would change anything. Why or Why not?

No… only because I don’t know how worse off I may become as a result of a different choice.

I feel the decisions I made whether good or bad put me where I am now and I like the place I am now. So no I wouldn’t change the things I did because the outcome would have been totally different and I don’t know if I would be just as happy with where I am in my life.

I wouldn’t have missed the events of my life for anything, but I would NOT go through it again!

Well no but then yes… I would start vocal lessons at a young age. Also acting, at a young age. Be trained well for my future, you know.

But I guess who I am now is because of all that happened to me and how I lived my life. So I wouldn’t like that to change because I’m proud of it.

As much as I hated the divorce of my first marriage it and all the other not so fun events in my life have added much texture, depth and experiences a perfect life of mine would not have had. I don’t have any do overs I care to give up!

Yes. But I won’t say what.

If I could retain what I’ve learned, sure, I’d give it another try. If I had to start out fresh, hell no!

sweetbee's avatar

@Ron_C That’s my sentiment. I have learned so much and would fair so much better if I could take some of those lessons with me.

Don’t know for sure. A lot of my life has been an uphill battle and I’m just glad that I’ve gotten through it, you know? Don’t reallly have the desire to do it again. But I have a lot of the same curiosity. How would things be now if I had/hadn’t done __________?

mattbrowne's avatar

I wouldn’t change a thing. Mishaps or failures in the past pave the road to more success in the future.

When my father was dying, he was talking to my oldest sister and she was talking about how spoiled her cats where and she made the flippant comment that she wouldn’t mind coming back as a pet cat in her next life. My dad looked right at her and said he would have the same life again if he could. When Robin told us that after he died, we just cried. Our dad would have the same life, complete with all 9 of us kids and the same wife of over 50 years…. wow.

Me? Yeah… maybe I would have taken some more formal schooling on the way, but I wouldn’t change my course. I couldn’t have planned it like this if I tried, moving twice half way around the world, but I’m glad I did it and what came from it.

No. As much as I’d like to change a few particulars, I couldn’t live through all of it again knowing what I know now. Before I had faith, illusions or whatever you want to call them to get through horribly difficult times for myself. If I went back with the knowledge of what I actually went through, I’d be so crushed, maybe enough to not be able to change the things I think I’d like to.

I dont think I would because if it wasnt for the past I wouldn’t be where I am now . Maybe, I’ve made a lot of mistakes but in reality that’s what we all do . At times I do wish I could turn back time but I know that I wouldn’t be who I am now, the mistakes and falis made me who I am and made me STRONGER;♥

No. I’d leave it as it is.

Yes, I made several choices that I would change. Example: My son got hurt at school, and I did not realize the extent of his injuries. I felt I had to go to work, and let the housekeeper take him to the doctor. It was a mistake I always regret.

I think the most messed up thing about me is that if I had the choice to do it all over again, I would.
And I wouldn’t change a thing. I’d just like to see him again…

My initial response is yes – but I guess it makes sense only if you get to retain the knowledge you have now and that would make you one weird 5 year old.

omigod yes.

I am the living example of “Too soon Olt, too late Schmardt”

Eh, it would only lead me back here again. For me, there is no sleep like other men. Just the symphony of clashing swords and blood in the Sun.

There are 2 books anyone who longs for this and isn’t isn’t too old or too depressed and bitter about it should read—they are Robert Heinlein’s Door Into Summer and John D McDonald’s The Girl, the Gold Watch, and Everything.
