Trying to reinstall xp onto a HP Pavilion dv2750ea?

Asked by kingpinlovesyou (312points) August 10th, 2011

I’ve had to replace the hard drive but the laptop didn’t come with a disk but I still have the serial code on the bottom.

I’m not 100% sure what xp came with this, was it just a normal xp or media center? Can I just put in any xp disk and when it comes to putting in the serial code, put it in and it will install?

Try the code after starting the install. The laptop did have xp media center available.

The HP website under Support and Drivers and then under Product Support has the manuals for your computer.

Here is a link to HP’s page with the specifications for their Pavilion dv9050ea Media Center laptop. Compare the external ports and the part number (on the bottom) with yours and see if it’s the right one. http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c00777711&lang=en&cc=us&taskId=101&prodSeriesId=1842187&prodTypeId=321957

The HP website under Support and Drivers and then under Drivers and Software has the drivers for your computer.

You can install a retail version of Windows XP Media Center if you can find one on an auction, but it won’t use your product key. You have to use the product key that comes with your retail disk. You might be able to get an HP restore disk on the auction site. HP restore disks use your product key and only work on HP computers, so be sure it’s the right version with the right service pack.
