YouTube/Video Problems: What might be happening? (Details follow.)

Asked by DarlingRhadamanthus (11273points) August 12th, 2011

I’ve been having problems with YouTube and other embedded videos (in other websites) for a few days. What happens is that I will open up a video and it starts to play okay. Then it stalls, and all I hear is the voice (the action freeze-frames). Then, even the voice stops. When I try to close the window, it refuses to shut. I also cannot open any other windows either. What I end up having to do to “unstick” the video is to close all the windows so that the video shuts down.

I’ve never had this problem before. Do you know what might be causing this? (It is also happening with other videos that I find on other sites….seems to be an overall problem.) I use Firefox and have Windows 7.

Thank you.

You need to clean out the duplicated programs on your computer.

Your disc space is also taken up and it needs to be cleaned.

This happened to me and the cleanup did the trick.

I agree with @john65pennington Sometimes junk files and errors build up over time and slow your computer down, particularly things like videos that require a fair amount of computing power. I have a Mac and use another program to “clean up” but for Windows 7 you might try one of the following programs and see if they don’t take care of the problem. They are both free and both good enough.

Advanced System Care Free

Wise Disk Cleaner Free

Someone who uses a Windows based computer more than I do may have more or better suggestions but either of those should work.
