What act of kindness have you recently done for a total stranger, either because they requested it or for no reason at all?

A crack head came up to me one day while I was working and wanted some money. I had an extra sandwich in my lunch box and offered it to him instead. He said “no thanks.” And I said “Are you sure I made it myself?” Still couldn’t talk him into it. I didn’t understand really, he was wanting some money to get a sandwich so he said.

It hurt my feelings.

One of the men working on the Family Dollar Store near us had the hood of his car up and was messing around underneath. I stopped and asked if he needed some help. So we jumped his car off and it started right up.

I often hold doors open for people, and help when they drop something. If they ask where something is in the grocery store, and I know, I will tell them.

BART, our local subway, broke down Monday night. I had to drive my daughter back to Oakland, after she visited us. At 10pm, on the way home, I started to pull into the Oakland BART station to see if anyone needed a ride back to Concord, just as the radio announced that BART service had been restored.
So, I felt like a caring person without having to actually do anything.

On Tuesday, I was sitting in the dentist and saw a lady rolling a water bottle on her neck. I happened to have peppermint oil in my purse. I couldn’t stand it. It was a very hot day and I said, “I’m sorry to bother you, but I noticed that you seemed to be trying to cool off. I happen to have some peppermint oil if you would like to rub it on your neck?”
She said, “As soon as I leave here I was going to buy some. I have an awful migraine and it’s even making me nauseous.”
She used my peppermint oil and felt much better. :-)

I was at an art fair recently and undercharged a woman for the items she bought. She was alittle harried and rushed but the mere fact that she brought it to my attention was such a relief that I put a handmade tile with a bumblebee design in her bag and told her to “bee” happy.
I am sure she has found it by now and hopefully she is :)

A new queue opened up at the grocery and I encourage a woman older than me to go ahead of me because she was already waiting before me in another queue.

I went to a store and bought about $80 worth of stuff, and the register printed out a coupon for ”$5 off a purchase over $50” expiring tomorrow (8/13/11). I had no intentions of coming back to buy more stuff by tomorrow, and I could have thrown the coupon out. Instead I went to the lines, and looked for people with a lot of stuff. I saw a guy who had some stuff, talking to a woman who had more stuff. I went up to him and asked if they were together. He said yes. I asked if they had at least $50 worth of stuff. The woman said yes. I then explained about my coupon, and the woman and the man were very thankful.

When I pulled into the grocery store parking lot this afternoon, it was fairly hot. There was an elderly gentleman unloading items into his car, and I commented on the attractive flower arrangement he picked out. After a bit of chit-chat, I asked him if I could take his cart/buggy back to the store for him. He said, “Yes, feel free to take it. The wheels work well.”

I wasn’t planning to use a cart, but just do a good deed. He didn’t know that though. The way I view the verbal exchange, it was a kind act on both of our parts.

This is an old one question!

I was at the grocery store the other day, and a lady in a motor scooter was parked in one of the aisles, off to the side. She was talking on her phone saying she didn’t have the money to do something or another. She said “I only have $20 to my name! That’s all I have!” She sounded so sad and so desperate….well, I happened to have a $20 in my billfold that I’d had for a while. I walked around the corner and down the adjoining aisle, then turned back into her aisle, and came up behind her, leaned over and dropped that $20 into her basket. Then turned around and walked away.
