I really can't believe no one has asked this yet today but...do you feel the deal that the West Memphis Three got was a bit backward?

Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley, and Jason Baldwin were released today under the condition that they take the Alford Plea. So hurray!...right?

Oh, wait, THAT means hey have to say they are guilty to be set free! How absurd! I mean, we all knew they were innocent from the start, plus new evidence has come up time and time again, and the judge has just thrown it out instead of retrying the 3 men, so is this all just a ploy for Judge David Burnett to try and look like a swell guy so he can get a little promotion to the Arkansas Supreme Court? And why would we want judges of his corrupt ilk reigning over Supreme Court decisions in any state?

By the way, I am so happy these 3 boys are out of prison! Hooray for….um…justice…

If they really are innocent (which I know too few about to judge) then I congratulate them.
But the family of the murdered children I pity because it automatically means that the actual killer(s) are still walking free….

It’s obviously not ideal, but I’m happy to hear that they’re finally out.

You’re misreading the Alford Plea. The thing is called “a guilty plea”, but it’s only an admission by the defendant/s that the state likely has enough evidence to convict them “beyond a reasonable doubt” in front of a jury. The plea is based on an assertion by the defendant/s of their innocence.

Other than that, I have no idea who the “West Memphis Three” are. A link might have been helpful, since I’m just not revved enough to google them tonight.

Oh God. The West Memphist 3
It all came at the tail end of the 80’s Christian frenzy that All the Satanists Are Out To Get Our Children…...and people were denying their common sense, convinced that Dark Forces were at work….....Shades of the Salem Witch Hunt.

This is just horrible…some of the parents are just horrible. Those poor, poor children…...

@CWOTUS Here’s a link. Googling it would’ve been sooooo tiring, I know.~

I was really targeting it toward the people on here who know about the case and have been following it. I am just not “revved” enough to explain it to the people who don’t know. And I understand that the Alford plea means that the defendant is stating that the state, etc. has enough evidence to convict them beyond a reasonable doubt, thanks for, uh correcting me. The reason I said they are made to say they are guilty is because that is more or less what their record says. They have NOT been exonerated on their innocence. That is why it is horseshit. The state did NOT have enough evidence beyond a reasonable doubt to convict them. In fact, there was a threat to reopen the case and retry the three with the new evidence that came forth.

@Dutchess_III I remember the Satanic Panic of the 90s well, because my parents were evangelical pentecostal Xtians. It was preached at my church and handed out in tracts by the Chick Tract company…like this one…
