Can you share your favourite chip dip recipe?

Asked by sophiesword (2294points) August 29th, 2011

I really like the plain salted lays but lately I feel the need of a tangy, flavorsome dip

I prefer tomato based ones as opposed to the cheesy ones.

Do you know a good recipe?

My wife makes it with sour cream mixed with Lipton onion soup mix. We don’t chip and dip much any more but it was good especially dipping broccoli ,carrot sticks and celery.

@cletrans2col can you give me the recipe for that please?

@woodcutter and @WestRiverrat thank you !

My sister pours a ranch packet (the powdered kind) into a pint of sour cream. It is yummy.

I don’t know what it was, but last night I was shitfaced and my friend brought me a giant tray of this blue cheese marinated mayonaise infused buffalo chicken dip and sweet tap dancing baby Jesus it was amazing.

I shat green water all day today, but I blame that on the wine.

@ woodcutter has the right idea! That dip is so tasty. My friend Christine got super pissed when I ate almost all of it when she made it for a party and not just for me ;) oopsie

Hummus on pita bread is my favorite. Salsa and tortilla chips comes in at #2. A cheese dip is #3, especially if it is made from the recipe below.

Parmesan Onion Souffle
24 oz. of cream cheese
2 cups of shredded parmesan cheese
½ cup of mayonnaise
16 oz. of chopped onions (frozen are fine)
Mix together and bake in a souffle dish at 450 degrees F. until the top turns a light brown.

I’m not a fan of cream cheese and abhor mayonnaise, but this dip is divine.

@cletrans2col I just had some of that like 2 hours ago.
My favorite chip dip is simple. Sour cream, onion salt, black pepper. Mix to taste.
That buffalo chicken dip is really awesome, though.

A crab dip with sour cream, lemon, chives and hot sauce to taste. Just a little will do.

The spinach dip recipe on Knorr vegetable soup package. Add water chestnuts, marinated artichoke hearts and a few pickled jalepeno peppers.

A tradition in my family. Clam dip served with Fritos.

1 can minced (not chopped) clams (Snow’s baby clams are best) (drained, but a little bit of juice retained for dip)
4 oz. cream cheese
3 tbsps. mayo
½ grated onion and juice
1 large dash worchestershire sauce
1–2 tsps lemon juice
salt and pepper to taste
a few drops of cream if needed to loosen the consistency

Mix all ingredients together and refrigerate at least 30 minutes for flavors to blend.

Serve with dipping Fritos (large ones).

This sounds a little simple and a bit odd but it’s really really delicious.

Add one or two envelopes of Lipton powdered Tomato soup to one container of Sour Cream.

If you want a little variety, you can also add some sweet hot dog relish.

For some odd reason, the plain tomato soup powder is found in fewer stores these days, but if you persist, you’ll find it.

Here’s a dip from Whole Foods: Nutty Red Pepper and Basil

Neizvestnaya's avatar

Sunroasted (dried) tomatoes pulverized into a powder
Minced multi colored fresh bell peppers
Fresh cloves of garlic pressed
Coarsely ground black pepper
Squeeze of fresh lemon juice
Red Pepper Chili flakes
Tub of sour creme

Dump all the ingredients into a bowl, stir and let sit/soak overnight. It’s good on vegies and all kinds of chips.

Guacamole: lots of ready avocados, lots of garlic, lime juice, lemon juice and salt. And maybe some chili pepper.
