What food are you craving right now?

Asked by erichw1504 (26341 points ) September 1st, 2011

Have you had a craving for a certain type of food or a more specific food item? If so, what is it and what started this craving? When do you plan to satisfy it? Or will you not satisfy it due to a diet or inability to eat it? If you don’t have a craving right now, when and what was your latest craving?

What food do you crave the most often?

Don’t forget about drinks too!

Let’s make everyone hungry and talk fewd!

@tom_g Yeah, I had a craving for pizza for about two weeks. And yesterday our class instructor brought in pizza for everyone. I was like “Yeeaaah buddy!”

Definitely bloody steak at Ruth’s Chris Steak House and nice bottle of red wine. And it has to be Ruth’s at Dupont Circle, by the window and with the SO, otherwise, the food is useless.

Dim Sum with icy cold Tsing Tao beer on the side and some good company.

It’s 1:06 on the west coast and Coloma has not had a bite to eat…yet.
My hunger is reaching critical mass. lol
I have leftover veggie pizza, watermelon and a ton of fresh cherries. Probably all of the above any minute now…or, maybe I’ll splurge on a happy brownie with a cup of yogurt and get on with my farm chores and bill paying. hahaha

Veggie stir fry over sticky rice. I think I just drooled, for real. Ooh, with hot mustard and an egg roll.

I crave cheese most of the time. The last time I indulged my craving for cheese was last week when I altered a classic mac and cheese recipe and I used swiss cheese (I usually do cheddar) and then I added sauteed broccoli and mushrooms to the roux, before I baked it. I was going to put some of those yummy Trader Joe’s Gourmet Fried Onion Pieces on top, instead of breadcrumbs, but I found out that those onions are considered a seasonal item! The French’s brand are OK, but they’re way more greasy than TJ’s and they have a lot of chemical ingredients that TJ’s doesn’t have. Next time!

The other thing that I often crave is a Thai/Vietnamese dessert called Sticky Rice Mango which is one of the most luscious things I’ve ever eaten in my life. It’s not very sweet, the mango is tart and the rice is cooked with coconut milk. It’s a very sensual experience to eat it. Excuse me while I go fan myself off!

@Neizvestnaya I’ll join you.

Ok, this thread is triggering all kinds of food strange food cravings. When I was a kid, we used to go to a pancake place that served bacon pancakes. It was crumbled up bacon cooked into the pancake. That sounds good right now.

@Vunessuh I just scrolled back up and saw your post. You are making me drool. I thought I was the only person on earth who actually loves those nachos.

Souplantation has a really fantastic broccoli cheese soup too (and it’s vegetarian!!!) I found out the one at Panera is made with chicken broth : ( Although Panera’s black bean soup is totally veggie and really good!

Some sushi sounds good right about now. It probably would be a bad idea to have it now (if I wanted to use wasabi, that is….which I do, of course) this close after surgery, unfortunately. Wah! Something to look forward to, I suppose.

One of the hardest things I’ve ever done was go 2 months without eating (while on IV nutrition). My body didn’t understand wtf was going on. At a basic level, our brains can’t really understand that it is possible to not eat for that long and still be alive. So I was having to suppress these very intense insticts telling me to eat. It was really very odd and unpleasant. My cravings these days, strong as they may be, feel like nothing in comparison to those memories!

Melon…

I seem to crave it the most when it’s hot, and I just got back from walking in the hot sun. All I want is a fruit salad of honeydew, cantaloupe, and watermelon…

mazingerz88's avatar

@Kardamom This Thai place we go to has this sticky rice with mango and coconut ice cream. Go figure. But it’s heaven. : )

Reese peanut butter cups.
Chocolate ice cream.
My mom’s brownies.
Tiramisu.

I most often crave sweet things, or salty carbs. I’ve been trying really hard to eat better and stay away from the junk.

Mariah's avatar

@DominicX Ooh, that happens to me too in hot weather. I always wonder if it might indicate dehydration. I heard of a case where a woman started craving nothing but iceberg lettuce; she ate heads and heads of the stuff before realizing she was dehydrated and her body was just craving what it needed. Bodies are smart like that.

An I can haz cheezburger. Lol.

DominicX's avatar

@Mariah

I think it must be. When I get sick and have a sore throat, I don’t want to drink water because it’s an unpleasant experience and I always seem to crave things like green grapes, apples, and watermelon. Can’t be a coincidence…

Sunny2's avatar

@erichw1504 Well, you’ve succeeded in making me hungry when I wasn’t before reading this page. My hunger hasn’t settled on any particular food. Chocolate eclairs with custard filling is always in the back of my mind and seldom satisfied. I rarely have potato chips so I’ll choose those; the kind with ridges. And with a garlicky cream cheese, sour cream dip.

incendiary_dan's avatar

Sesame chicken. Luckily, that is exactly what I have in front of me.

Cruiser's avatar

@Coloma Even better I am cookin! I’ll save you a plate! ;)

tedibear's avatar

Brownies with chocolate chips in them.

Coloma's avatar

@Cruiser

Sounds great!

My dinner on this warm evening is spiniche dip with some artisan bread and a big bowl of fresh cherries! Mmmm, perfect!

I have a craving for some food for thought. For instance, a sautéed morsel of original ideas. Or a delicious quote from the Greek philosophers. Ah, I just love the piquant after taste following some tidbits from Shakespeare. Oh and some quotes from Samuel Clemens for desert is always good.

I’d really like a chocolate biscuit right now!

Lobster or crab. No idea why, but I visualize a huge plate of Crabby Bill’s (Clearwater Beach) king crab legs.
