Can I fix the slow channel-changing behavior on my TV?

Asked by davetannenbaum (33points) September 3rd, 2011

I have an somewhat old TV (Sharp Aquos, Model # LC-32D40U) with basic cable from Time Warner. The cable runs straight from the wall to my TV, i.e., no cable box (Time Warner didn’t give me one since I just requested the bare bones cable tv package).

So here’s my problem: When I change channels, it is extremely slow to register the new channel. Usually takes about 5 seconds for the picture to register. Is there any equipment I can buy to remedy this?

Buy one of those cheap DVD/VCR’s (or just a twenty dollar vcr) then plug the cable into the in-put on the vcr and out to your tv.. set it on the correct channel (3) both behind the vcr and set tv to channel 3 then use the vcr’s remote, this should speed things up but you should understand that the cable company controls things from their end and bare bone just might include this slowness especially if your tv had no problem switching through network tv before you got the cable, but if it’s your tv doing this then going through the vcr will help speed things up.
