"Happily married? Join our dating site and find yourself someone to cheat with!" [Details inside]?

Asked by rebbel (35547points) September 5th, 2011

When I heard this ad the first time on television, I thought Aww, isn’t that a sweet one, a dating site for people who lost their SO or whose first, big love has woefully ended, but I was wrong.
SecondLoveDotNL is aimed at people who have a happy relationship but feel the need to [fill in your favorite euphemism for cheating here].
It is not a swingers site, it is specifically talking about breaking the rut of your relationship and, basically, fuck around, without your SO knowing.
What is your opinion on the existence of such service?
I can’t really put it in good words I am afraid, but doesn’t this look like this is a first (?) step into making cheating ‘just’ okay?

Well it sounds contradictory. If one is happily married, that means they’re NOT in a rut and have NO need to go outside the marriage (if they’re monogamous). I have heard of ads in Europe that tell people to cheat but they’re for all couples.

Why would a happily married person cheat? That would mean they’re not happily married. As far as cheating, they would do it anyway, without help of a website. This website and others are just a business venture taking advantage of a market.

I shouldn’t have to point out that humans aren’t monogamous and marriage is a social construct.

@Blackberry and @Simone_De_Beauvoir Yeah, I see the contradiction too, and it is a pity (or is it?) that there is no English branch of the site (only some Spanish language and a Belgian one) so that you could read their motto’s.
But here is what Google translation made of it:

Directed to the females Did you know that sometimes?

That you sit in front of you to stare and think: “what is my life become a routine.”
You do not want major changes in your life but you have to something else, something new for yourself.

Break the routine and do something daring. Life is short: Give yourself this gift a Second Love!

Ah, look at how far men have evolved from just using a wooden club to knock a random female down when you had the urge to celebrate after a successful hunt and your cave woman is busy barbecuing the mammoth.

@rebbel Yeah, There’s a website called Ashley Madison that has a similar motto: Life is too short, have an affair.

There’s a certain Jelly on another thread that would probably appreciate this site, more than the rest of us.

LOL, I get what they are saying. When they say happily married, what they mean is they are looking for the person who doesn’t want out of the marriage and isn’t hunting for a commitment in another relationship but just looking to get laid with no strings attach. They don’t want the single girl or guy or the person who is on the verge of leaving their marriage. They want the person who wants their cake and to eat it too. Someone who isn’t satisfied with a single partner for sex for the rest of their life but is probably married to someone they know who won’t go for swinging or maybe just wants to swing but doesn’t want too share thier partner.
Amusing but not new.
They should just advertise like this. Are you a slut but you don’t want your partner to know? Call us. We have many sluts for you to choose from.

@Pandora Lol! Sluts ”Я” Us
@Blackberry I’ll check it out, thanks ;-) Is there only Ashley there, for all the male members?

As a public service announcement to the interested women of Fluther, I have actually heard that these are the best sites to join for young women seeking low maintenance sugar daddies.

They’re a bunch of ignorant fuckers, quite literally as it turns out.

@Imadethisupwithnoforethought What about older women? Can’t they have a sugar daddy too?

Imadethisupwithnoforethought's avatar

@chyna Of course, but I think they prefer younger men born rich.

Every time someone takes a cheater back into their bed, we edge closer to such reprehensible behavior becoming OK. A service such as this is someone trying to make a dollar off of someone else’s potential broken heart. Shame on them.

I don’t think it will catch on except with those who were going to do it anyway.
