Anything unusual happen around you today that you finally realized was in honor of 9/11?

Small town. I was sitting on my deck when suddenly every fire truck and cop car that we have set their sirens off. At first I thought there must be some major emergency….but the sound wasn’t moving from where it was located at the fire station. A great cacophony of different kinds of sirens went on and on….it suddenly hit me…. it was high noon, September 11, 2011. I got tears in my eyes.

Church bells rang at the times that each of the two planes hit. I didn’t realize what was going on until the second set of bells.

Should be a third set for Flight 93.

A long column of motorcycles drove by on the parkway. The sound went on for at least 3 minutes. That means the procession was 3 miles long.

Not used to seeing so many flags flying in my neighborhood….more than on the 4th of July.

@Dutchess_III after posting to the Are we really likely to forget? question, I felt my answer there fit in here as well, and gave a link rather than crossposting the whole thing.

I noticed that a lot of the comic strips in my newspaper this morning were commemorating 9/11, like my favorite “Pooch Cafe”. I didn’t expect that. I thought that was a nice surprise and a wonderful tribute.

Also, all the flags I saw today at fire stations were flown at half mast.

This is dumb, I guess, but since that day, if I ever find that I’m writing a check on 9/11 I change the date to 9/10 or 9/12.

The flags being half mast at the library reminded me.
