What are some differences between the movie Mystic River and the book?

Asked by kb12345 (435points) September 12th, 2011 from iPhone

I have a test tomorrow on the book Mystic River. I did not read the book but I did carefully watch the movie. For those who both read the book and the movie what are some main points that happened in the book that I should know. Was the ending of the book different then the ending of the movie? How so?

The same ones as were there when you asked this before. Shut off the computer and read the book, please.

I agree with @gailcalled. I have read many books in one day. Have at her.

Gail you must be grumpy I’m sorry my iPhone is being a pain-so sorry!

And I don’t have ‘a day’ to read it. I said the test was tomorrow, as in 8am

At 416 pages it would be a stretch to read it but then it may just be a lesson to not put off your homework.

Quite a stretch I agree. I was just asking for some main points about the book, sorry for the confusion guys!

I can read a 416 page book in one night. Most likely if it were my homework, I’d have been reading it from the day it I recieved my assignment.

Did you watch the movie already?

I guess that’s the difference between me and you! I had class till 3 work till 8 just not reasonable! I understand I should’ve done it but I learned at least from this. Yes I’ve already watched the movie

@kb12345 Alright, I read two or three books a week for my own pleasure by just reading a ½hr before bed. If you get into a reading habit, a 400+ page book won’t seem like work at all.

When comparing a book to a movie, your best bet is to read the book first. You’ll better compare what the author was trying to convey without getting the movie studio bias stuck in your perspective.

Since you didn’t do that this time my best advice would be to read reviews from people that read the book on Amazon or the like and compare it with the cliff notes you can find on the Net.

The biggest difference between the movie and the book is that both Sean Penn and Tim Robbins appeared in the movie but not in the book :)
