So you mean for all of the companies in the U.S. or individual companies?

You get get earning information from the census report on services.

Capital spending data are available here.

Payroll data are available here.

Look around on the census site. You should be able to find what you want. There may even be reports.

The Bureau of Economic Analysis is another good place to look. They have reports on Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Personal Income and Outlays, Consumer Spending, Corporate Profits, Fixed Assets, and the Research and Development Satellite Account.

If you need some detailed specifications on a particular Corporation, you can use Google Finance.

For example, Exxon Mobil – Balance Sheet – Income Statement – CashFlow

Thanks a lot, this is very helpful!

@wundayatta – I looked around at BEA website but had difficulty figuring out which of the statistics can give me what I want. I want business operating costs (expenses) and sales by businesses (revenues) aggregated for over companies in an economy. From BEA, to me, it looked like Domestic Product (GDP), Personal Income and Outlays, Consumer Spending, Corporate Profits, Fixed Assets don’t allow me to extract these. If that’s not so, I’d appreciate you can point me towards a solution.

By operating costs I mean all operating costs of a company, including payrolls, rents, energy, services, infrastructure, not just capital investments for example.
