Would you be willing to share an update?

Asked by smilingheart1 (6439points) September 22nd, 2011

This question is directed to anyone who wrote about any kind of an issue that they were endeavouring to either understand or come to terms with or act upon in the past few months – something of a relational issue in particular.

Can you advise what direction you took or how things unfolded for you after having received the views of those on this site. How did you solve your problem?

I started kicking ass more and kissing it less. I am no longer anyone’s bitch.

I’m still having issues with my grandmother, who overdosed earlier this year. I’m waffling between wanting my kids to be able to see her, so they don’t feel cheated when she’s gone, BUT I’m still incredibly pissed off at her for 1. what she did and 2. all the lies she’s told to cover her own ass.

What really gives me the red ass is that even if I do decide to talk to her again, for the sake of my kids seeing her, I can’t tell her one of the reasons I’m pissed off is that I know she’s been lying her ass off, because I’m not supposed to know about that. It’s all very soap-opera-ish and stupid, really, but it’s a freaking horrible situation.

Wish I could give a happy update. :(

I second what @Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard wrote. It took a few years of fluthering to become annoyed enough with the things I let slide and then feel bogged down with hurt or bitterness for. It’s a whole lot lighter to push more for me. I still compromise but I don’t feel taken advantage of anymore.

This is a nice question. My update on my recovery from surgery is that I’m still doing quite well, but not as well as a couple weeks ago. I know intellectually that ups and downs are to be expected, but instinctually it’s scary to me that things have gotten worse with time, not better, and I really let it get to me yesterday and I did what I do sometimes which is to worry so badly that I feel physically ill, which, in turn, makes me worry. I think I managed to break out of the cycle today before I got too deeply sucked into it. I broke out of the cycle by watching a chipmunk. I saw it yawn. Which is one of the top five cutest things these eyes have ever seen.

@Mariah, anyone with a genuine and winsome way such as yours just can’t lose in the long run. You remind me of Anne made famous by Lucy Maude Montgomery. All the best!

Let’s see, @Fiddle_Playing_Creole_Bastard , you’re glad that the penchant for skinny white vampire boys is almost over because you’re hairy, your hero is Teddy “Killed me a bar when I was only three” Roosevelt and you’re the one I want to teach me how to shoot…Not thinking you were really anyone’s bitch.

I’m starting to feel better about my feelings about my husband’s thoughts on how I look. I’ve learned a couple of things that I didn’t know before, and it has helped. There’s still an inconsistency or two, but nothing extreme. We’ll see how I feel next week when PMS kicks in! And for whatever reason, for the last couple of weeks, he has seemed more “engaged” in any conversations we may have. We’ll see how it goes.

All I have to say is:
Asher has to live.
Vicariously through you.
Do not let him down.

I’m not gonna let him down…

Can I update again? Because I figured out why I’ve felt so shitty the last few days. It’s not all in my head. I am going through imodium withdrawal! I didn’t know there was such a thing! I had been taking eight a day for months while I had my ostomy (that is the prescibed limit given to people with ostomies) and the other day I just stopped taking it, just to experiment, because I thought it was a completely benign drug. But it occured to me to do a google search and I found these quotes describing imodium withdrawal as “flu like symptoms (cold sweats of a night, headaches, aching body, hot and cold flushes)” exactly how I’ve been feeling and “Symptoms of mild opiate withdrawal have been observed following abrupt discontinuation of long-term therapy with loperamide.” It’s such a relief to know that that’s all that’s wrong. I feel like Sherlock fuckin’ Holmes right now.

GQ. No, awesome question. Anyways, I know only a handful of people really knew, but my sister has been cancer-free for some time, and recently went back to college. We visited not too long ago to celebrate her birthday, and had an awesome time. Also, in some other good news, I secured a role as Ebenezer Scrooge in my highschool play. fuckyeah.jpg

TexasDude's avatar

@JilltheTooth you’d be surprised. Despite my hobbies and interests, I’m really incredibly passive when it comes to interpersonal stuff.

Mariah's avatar

@Joker94, I had never seen on here that your sister had cancer, but I’m glad to hear that she is doing so well. That is really, really great. Also, I meant to thank @smilingheart1 earlier and forgot; I’m sorry, dear, thank you so much.

smilingheart1's avatar

@Joker94, Scrooge is my top notch favourite production. I could enjoy that any time of the year. Awesome!

@Mariah Thanks a bunch, that means a lot :) @smilingheart1 Thanks! I’m looking forward to it a lot!

I can’t think of anything to write, but just wanted to say this is an Excellent question.

Great idea for a question for someone who’s been here less than two months. It means you are interested in the people behind the jelly persona and avatars, and are in touch with Fluther at a deeper level. I look forward to your future questions.

wundayatta's avatar

I don’t know how you people do it. Such exciting lives! I never have anything that seems worth putting up here or on Facebook, for that matter. What am I missing? How do you think up stuff for questions like this?

zensky's avatar

@wundayatta I think that after you’ve posted 20,000 answers here and asked some 1400 question (Congrats – you’re the leader) you don’t have to come up with anything special – it’s all there for the world to see.

wundayatta's avatar

@zensky Questions and answers are completely different from personal updates, or have I been missing something? Well, obviously I’m missing something, since there is nothing about my life that I could randomly update anyone about.

I mean, what? I cleaned off my desk? I didn’t get a cookie this afternoon? My belt feels way too tight? The last recording I made is driving me crazy because I sound so out of tune? Is this shit anyone would care about? I know I don’t.

Michael_Huntington's avatar

Congrats to @Mariah and @Joker94! You kids make me happy!

zensky's avatar

I don’t want to hijack this lovely question, Day, but you’re not missing anything at all. I just think that if someone is here daily, for years, asking and answering – in great, great detail about personal issues – they are, in a sense, both revealing and sharing and thus “updating”. In one sense of the word.

As I mentioned in my earlier question, I have taken the dog next door into my home for my Grandson’s live in girlfriend. The dog isn’t house trained – fun and games.

Her rabies shot was up to date, but we had to spend $200 to bring the rest of her shots up to date and buy the advantage and heartworm meds. They gave us a “new customer” free flea bath.

I “revised” several realtionships this year, I decided it was time for the shredder. lol
Both were about a year each in coming and I am secure in my decisions.

Otherwise…my up to the minute update is: 8:16 on the west coast, just washed my car in the dark, my allergies are killing me and I am cleaning right now before the housekeepers come tomorrow. haha Silly woman!

cookieman's avatar

@wundayatta: I would definitely care if you missed your afternoon cookie.

blueiiznh's avatar

someone has cookies and is not sharing??????

JilltheTooth's avatar

@blueiiznh : The chipster above you always means to share but he sometimes just gets so excited about the very concept of cookies that he consumes with alarming alacrity…

wundayatta's avatar

Just for you, @cprevite: there was no @wundayatta afternoon cookie yesterday. Today’s report will come at approximately 5:30 pm today. Unless I forget. Maybe I should start a blog: The Daily Afternoon Cookie. Maybe I could get people to send me cookies to review.

Sheesh!

cookieman's avatar

I absolutely share my cookies. They’re much better with friends.

@wundayatta: All kidding aside, I get what your saying – which is why I haven’t posted on FB in over a year. I don’t think anything in my life is that interesting.

I do really like the concept of sharing such everyday things and having someone care about it and give you feedback. It warms my heart to know people have these relationships. I just can’t bring myself to do it. Too cynical I suppose.

Well my whole school time scheduling thing was going okay for a while, but it just exploded in my face this week.

For the last 2½ years my husband’s personal life could be likened to a series of round house punches to the midsection. Because I work closely with him, and what happens to him bleeds over to me, my life is a lot like that too. I have seen first hand the inconsistency and lack of integrity that runs the media (sports, news, newspaper people), and now whenever I hear anything on the news, I think “How much of THIS is true?”

I tend to ignore the news now.
