Why won't my cell phone vibrate when I get texts?

Asked by sliceswiththings (11723points) September 26th, 2011

My LG Cosmos recently started to not vibrate when I get a text. It doesn’t happen every time, but more often than not I look down and see I have gotten a text without feeling it vibrate.

Yes, my settings are such that it should vibrate. I am positive. If you suggest that I will be very sad that you don’t read details in questions.

When the camera broke it was as easy as going inside and pushing on the lens. Is there an easy way to get it to always vibrate again? I’m assuming I just dropped it funny.

Update: it’s not just texts. Calls as well.

You may have broken it, you may also just not be noticing it. I would suggest testing it with a couple friends sending you texts and calls a couple times and see if it only works occasionally. Sometimes I think my phone didn’t vibrate but really I’ve just grown accustomed to it and no longer notice it. When it was new the feeling was unfamiliar to me so it got more attention.

If it’s really not working, get a new phone, learn to live with it or see if maybe the store can do something for you.

As @asmonet mentioned, do confirm that the vibrate mode is or is not working by test calls/messages. If not working, pull battery out to reboot your phone’s OS. check again with test calls/messages.

Check to see if there has been firmware updates released. Install as necessary.

Check your notification/alert profile if it has been changed. Try using other variations of vibrate mode as well.

If vibrator doesn’t react, then it’s probably a hardware failure.
