If there were fewer chat rooms would people feel more comfortable hanging out in one?

Asked by Dog (25152points) September 26th, 2011

Just wondering if the large amount of rooms is intimidating or annoying?

By the way- The watering hole is a good hangout tonight~

Okay- what if there were two chat rooms:

Tidepool Chat

and

Exiled- for those annoyed with what is going on in Tidepool Chat?

But seriously! Less rooms and more chance of meeting awesome new people?

I’m thinking there should be one main chatroom, and maybe another for mod help?

Hey – I have an idea: a chatroom for each category – and the subesequent conversations would be category appropriate. General, Social and Meta.

I don’t know if the number of rooms is intimidating but the designations are a little confusing. I do sometimes feel uncomfortable about the discussions in chat if I know there’s a particularly young Jelly in the room.
Don’t get me wrong, I like adult chat as much as anyone but it doesn’t seem there’s a place Jelly parents would feel good about allowing minors to interact. I’d like to see maybe, an all-ages designated room and an “after hours, adults only” room. Our younger members would at least know what they were in for if they decided to enter the chat.

I would be more inclined to participate if there were fewer rooms. I never know which room to use, so when I think about going to chat, I just look at the list and end up leaving.

I like @augustlan‘s idea.. Can we do it Auggie?

@Dog I thought so, but now I’m having trouble figuring out how to get rid of the extra rooms. I’m working on it, though. :)
