Is it possible to use the microwave to bake things when your oven is broken?

Asked by emeraldisles (1949points) October 3rd, 2011

If it is, what can I bake? Could I make cupcakes or brownies that way? I’m just curious. I’ve tied google and many of those recipes call for an oven.

I’ve “baked” cakes in mason jars in the microwave. Tasted good to me!

@SamIAm I just could never get over the texture, it’s a bit strange but the taste is okay

You could always get a cheap toaster oven (mine was 20 bucks). I have make brownies in one before.

@johnpowell Cheap convection over is even better and they are reasonable as well.

You can definitely make cakes in the microwave. I’ll include a link to a nice microwave banana cake recipe.

Just make sure you have cake/muffin trays that are microwave safe. The stuff you normally use for the oven might not be safe to use in the microwave.

You can pretty much make anything in the microwave. Just be sure to watch the food so it doesn’t overflow or burn. Always make sure your dishware is microwave safe and use oven mitts when removing hot items.
