What would the penalty be for punching a government official in the face?

Asked by Afos22 (3990points) October 7th, 2011

Say someone were to meet a government official, (as in a Representative, someone from the Senate, or someone in the President’s cabinet.. *In America by the way) and punch them in the face. For the sake of argument, let’s say they deserved it. They were punched just once, and it was a first time offense. What would be the penalty. Assault charges? I know that assaulting a police officer carries a weightier penalty. Would the sentence be larger given that that person is important?

Depending on how high up they are, I imagine you’d get shot by the secret service as soon as you try.

Well, if I were the judge, I’d let you off that one time.

It all depends how they want to handle it.

Most likely the book would be thrown at the person by a judge. Why? So people wouldn’t think about copying the behavior.

Here in my area, a fella was fined in court for honking every day as he drives by the Governor’s house.

I don’t know, but probably much more severe than punching Mr.Everyone in the face. Retarded fuckin world.

It is more serious than an offence against an ordinary citizen, though it is that as well, as is an attack upon the authority of the government.

You would be charged with assault and pay the penalty plus given a restraining order to steer clear for a certain period of time. The penality would probably be relatively light, say 6 months in county (possibly probation) plus community service.. Why not really do some damage, punch him in the wallet by voting the bum out of office.. that way you will get off scot free.
