Do you have a gut feeling about the case of the missing 8 month old baby in Kansas City?

Asked by jca (36062points) October 7th, 2011

Earlier this week, in Kansas City, an 8 month old girl went missing from her home. The baby’s last name is Irwin. She lived with her two parents and (I think) two siblings in a small house. The mother was home with the kids at the time, the father was at work. The news said the home was unlocked, the 3 cell phones were stolen (or missing) and the parents say the baby was taken from her crib.

The parents have supposedly stopped cooperating with police and investigators. The mother failed a lie detector test. The parents were on the Today Show this morning, and they said their focus is on looking for the baby, and getting help in finding the baby. The mother was crying her eyes out. The father was relatively stoic.

On the news this afternoon, they said the police are searching landfills. It seems the parents are suspects (or at least the mom is a suspect).

What is your gut feeling on this case? Do you think the parents are innocent or do you think they had something to do with the baby’s disappearance?

My gut says the parents are involved but then again I always thought the parents of Madeleine McCann were involved in her disappearance which it now seems apparent that they weren’t. It’s instinctive until proven otherwise to assume guilt on the parents of missing or murdered children as they could also be covering up for other family members including siblings.

I don’t know. Two cases come to my mind immediately where the children were actually taken from the home. Elizabeth Smart and Jessica Lunsford. THe parents are always the usualy suspects. I can’t imagine being treated like a suspect when your child is missing. It would be tough.

My gut instantly says the cellphones missing is very strange though.

The weirdest part for me was the phones and the lights. Something about that does not sit well.

Why would someone turn on the lights & take the cell phones? Turning on lights could ruin your getaway. Phones? Makes no sense to me.

What about the lights, @SpatzieLover?

@bkcunningham When the husband came home from work at 4am the house lights were on and the front window was open and front door was unlocked.

It seems like a lot for someone stealing a kid, to touch. Why draw attention to yourself or the house in anyway?

Why take the cell phones (which are pretty well worthless) and leave the computer/other electronics, and steal a baby?

Methinks some discussion about what happened to the baby took place on the phones, so the phones were disposed of in order to bury the evidence.

How old are the other kids?

It wouldn’t be the first time a youngling with some issues killed little sister/brother and the parents covered it up to “protect their child”.

This reminds me of that EIsenberg case a few years back. It will probably end the same.

Showing emotions or not really has little to do with it. They need to find the child… If they can?

The way the law is set up, you need a body to prove foul play. They have no body, they have no case.

I think that law should be changed.

My gut tells me the mother is responsible and the father knows what happened. I don’t think the mother actually killed the baby, maybe found her dead then disposed of her body.

@EnchantingEla The longer this goes on, the more I think both parents are somehow “in” on it.

I agree. It may be a case of baby died…then they covered it up. People do strange things when they’re drunk.
