Can you help me find this story?

It’s a story I read when I was in middle school or so, about a boy/nerd who gets bullied everyday, one day after getting bullied in the hall a girl stopped to help him up. This is where I can’t remember the rest. It’s something along the lines of… He sends her a box and a note saying don’t open till 12 days from now or something like that. On the 12th day she goes to school and finds out he killed himself, she goes home opens the note and box and the note says something along the lines of she doesn’t remember him but he remembers her. She helped him in ___ grade, again in ___ grade and that day in the hall, she was the only one who was ever was kind to him so he left her a box of 12 roses and all but one were dead when she opened the box? It was such a touching story and I havent been able to find it for years. Have you heard it before? If so can you tell me the full descriptive story again?

I’m not sure how long ago you were in middle school, but your description sounds a LOT like “Thirteen Reasons Why” by Jay Asher—it was printed in 2007. The only difference is that the genders of the characters are transposed from what you’re describing.

The synopsis is: Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers several cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker—his classmate and crush—who committed suicide two weeks earlier. On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he’ll find out how he made the list.

I’m not sure if that’s the story you’re looking for, but that’s the closest match I could think of.
