If you could pinpoint one thing that you learned on Fluther that made your life easier, what was it?

Asked by Dog (25152points) October 18th, 2011

I was thinking about all the things I have asked here over the years and realized that the advice and information I have gotten here has often helped me a lot.

For instance, I had a locked antique cupboard and wanted to get a key made. I could not find any way to do it because of the age of the piece. But a flutherite came through with a fantastic source!
I was able to get a key made and the cabinet is as functional as it is beautiful.

How about you guys? What have you learned here that helped you out?

Don’t have sex with your land lord.

At the moment, it’s “diggy” not “jiggy.” You get jiggy with it. Not diggy with it. : (

Actually, on a more serious note, I’ve been crying for a Dyson vacuum cleaner for about a year now, ever since I stumbled on an old, old thread about one here. It’s impressive that opinions from other Flutherites would prompt me to go out and spend $500 sight unseen! As soon as I have $500 to splurge I’ll buy a Dyson with my eyes closed!

There are other things..I’ll have to think.

@Blackberry – No! Do have sex with your landlord! Landlords do it on the balcony :-p

I learned how nice people could be. I also got more trusting. I’ve never met anyone on here (except jellyfish3232) and yet I trust them to help me out through life’s little bumps and twists.
I’ve now also learned that having sex with landlords gets you in trouble. Won’t be trying that soon.

Dutchess_III's avatar

That’s nice @TheIntern55,....yes just say no to the landlord!

I learned a lot of stuff about ninjas. I’m not making a joke. I don’t know how practical that is, but now I can’t watch a ninja movie without laughing my ass off.
But really, I learned about actual Feudal Japan ninjas here, and that was cool.

I learned what to expect after you’re expecting…to have your uterus yanked out.

Seriously. I’d never advise people to come to Fluther for amateur medical advice…but it really helped hearing from others what to expect before a major surgery. It helped me adjust my expectations and people—were—are so..warm, and nice and kind here.

lol @Symbeline! I just read your first sentence and started laughing!

Ninjas are cool. But not as much as Vikings. I gotta ask a question about Vikings now, so I can learn stuff.

Actually I thought of a better answer than my previous one. It isn’t much, but it saved me a lot of trouble actually. I have a PlayStation 3, but I don’t have the right type of television for it. I asked if I could do something about this in the settings, or with my TV, or if some special cables could help…I was convinced there was. But I got plenty of answers saying that I really just need a modern TV. You just can’t do dick with a square one.
If I didn’t ask that here, I woulda spent a long time looking online for help, unless I ended up finding the same answers as here. (which I did later, so it does confirm that people here knew what they were talking about)

Vikings. Well, @Symbeline The Vikings are our home town’s team! So, now you know. :)

I think ya’ll have saved my computer from certain death more than once…

Sweet. On both the Vikings and your computer rescuing.

I’ve asked more than a thousand questions over the years. I’ve learned a lot from Fluther. It has definitely helped with my writing as well.

Life does go on without him.
I learn that, then he comes back… Of course.

I learned that redheads need more anesthesia. I’ve had issues with this all my life, but never knew why until I came across this information on Fluther.

I learned that there are certain things, even if they are absolutely Legal in certain Countries, that people have very strong emotions about one way or the other, such as the current human right debate for assisted suicide whether a person has a terminal illness or longterm mental illness and makes a repeated request for themselves. It seems the Countries most willing to help people with an assisted suicide are Scandanavia and Switzerland and these are also the most peaceful nations who rarely intervene in other Countries conflicts-so I wonder if Scananavia and Switzerland could be viewed as some of the most compassionate Countries in the World? They neither rush to intervene in other Countries conflicts or engage in unneccessary conflicts and wars, they are also compassionate enough to help a person in severe pain , whether this is a terminal illness or longterm mental illness, to end their lives, if the person requests it.

I also learned not to have sex with that pesky landlord.

I learned not to eat deli meats after 3 days or you could get sick.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Well, I just learned that Auggie is a red-head!
And I’m with Zen…my writing has definitely improved. So has my spelling…but that’s because of spell check! : )
I learned never to have sex with another person’s landlord.
