"The Wonder Years"! Where are Kevin and Winnie now?

Asked by john65pennington (29258points) October 25th, 2011

The Wonder Years had at least 100 episodes on television and I believe I have watched each one. Both Kevin and Winnie were cute as they lived out their cat and mouse puppy love affair in the 60s. I watched them grow up on television. Question: where are Kevin and Winnie today? Were you a watcher of The Wonder Years? Did Kevin and Winnie ever date each other in real life in their older years? Did you enjoy watching The Wonder Years? If not, why not?

I had to watch one episode for English and I can’t see that being a good couple in real life or on the show. Sorry.
Congragulations on watching the whole series though .I’m sure you’re proud of yourself. I would be.

I loved this show when I was younger. I always wanted Kevin to find someone else..someone who would appreciate him more than Winnie. I wouldn’t mind watching a few episodes for old times sake.

Winnie has become a math book writer.

I loved The Wonder Years! That show was a very accurate portrayal of that time period. My brother would laugh and then groan with agony at the accuracy of poor Kevin’s angst. The actress who played Winnie (Danica McKellar) was one of the prettiest girls I have ever seen, and her look and her clothes and her mannerisms were right on target. All of the girls in my school had long straight hair like hers (or at least they tried to have hair like that). I actually have some similar dresses to Winnie’s because I collect clothing and shoes and purses from the 1960’s.

Kevin (Fred Savage) had a best friend named Paul played by actor Josh Saviano. I can attest that several of my brother’s friends were very much like Paul, with regards to his nerdiness, his sweetness and his choice of clothing. Kevin’s brother Wayne (played by actor Jason Hervey) was very typical of some of the douchey bullying neighbor kids and classmates that me and my brother knew while growing up in the 60’s. That show brought back a flood of both good and painful memories for us. I really wanted it to be true that the actors who played Winnie and Kevin were really in love in real life, but I think they were just friendly co-workers.

The parents were very accurate too. The mom reminds me a lot of my own mom. The dad reminds me very much of one of my good friend’s fathers, that lived across the street from us. He was quite stern, but he was also very talented at fixing stuff like cars and motorized stuff, but he wasn’t very warm and fuzzy but I still knew that he loved his kids and his wife. My friend’s brother was a lot like Wayne and I couldn’t stand him.

The finale of the Wonder Years almost killed me. I won’t spoil it for anyone who hasn’t seen it but is interested in watching the best and sweetest and most accurate portrayal of life in the suburbs in the 1960’s.

I know that Fred Savage starred in 2 unsuccessful sitcoms after the Wonder Years, and I just read that he has produced and/or directed all sorts of shows and he graduated with a degree in English from Stanford. He grew into a very handsome man. As you can see Here

Danica McKeller graduated summa cum laude from UCLA with honors in mathematics. She’s written several best selling books about math that are geared toward young girls, to get them interested in math and how to help them excel in math. I know she’s done a few small parts in several television shows. I would love to see her play a long lost sister, or unkown sister of Ziva David’s character on NCIS, because they look very similar. You can see Ziva (played by actress Cote de Pablo) Here and you can see Danica McKellar Here

Danica McKellar’s sister, Crystal McKellar, also played a part on The Wonder Years, she played Becky Slater, who Kevin briefly dated, after he found out that Winnie was dating someone else.

You may or may not recall that David Schwimmer, who’s mostly known for playing Ross on Friends, had a small re-occurring character on The Wonder Years. Most people forget that Kevin and Wayne had an older sister, played by the beautiful British actress, Olivia d’Abo, and David Schwimmer played her boyfriend. And you guys thought I only watch The Nanny!

I love the show too but is somehow outdated. Was the first show where I heard the expression “going steady”. I believe I’ve seen 2 or 3 shows with that particular line in it and it feel s awkward to say it.
I did not do a follow up on them but if you remember the last episode you can see how it ended… “hey papa… coming son”. And he tells that they didn’t really quite did anything after that last encounter.
Was a nice show but if you watch it today you feel that it’s missing a lot of things [besides the acting and the professionalism ].

Anyway great question ^^

For those of you who loved The Wonder Years, if you want to watch another similar program, set in the same era, but with a bit grittier content, rent the series American Dreams, starring Brittany Snow. It’s starts out with Meg (played by Brittany Snow) and her best friend auditioning to dance on Dick Clark’s Band Stand but very quickly becomes a very involved drama about the upheaval and changing situations in the 1960’s. Lots of sticky situations are explored including questioning one’s religion, out of wedlock pregnancy, infidelity, abortion, war, and discrimination, but it’s not melodramatic and has a very good ensemble cast.

@Kardamom seen it but it wasn’t that great. At least I don’t see it as a series on my “One thousand movies to see in your life”. Don’t get me wrong. It’s a great one but not that great.

Kardamom's avatar

@Hibernate To each his own. American Dreams is in my top ten (or actually twelve) along with The Nanny and M*A*S*H and NCIS and The Bob Newhart Show and The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Dick Van Dyke Show and Scrubs and Newhart and Glee and Hillstreet Blues, and of course The Wonder Years.

I think most people that really appreciated The Wonder Years, for not only it’s subject matter, and time period, will like it for it’s thoughtful scripts and terrific casting. I say give it a try, if you’re interested in this era. If you lived through this era, you will feel a sense of nostalgia (both pain and happiness) Enjoy : )

I loved ‘The Wonder Years!’ It’s really not a show that I would normally like, but I used to watch it a lot when I was younger, and I can’t not love it now.
I went to Barnes & Noble the other day and saw the actress who played Winnie on math books. I knew she wrote them, but I was so excited to see one right there in the middle of the store.

“I would love to see her play a long lost sister, or unkown sister of Ziva David’s character on NCIS…”

As you perhaps already know, Danica had a role in an episode of NCIS.

I like The Wonder Years. I don’t really enjoy “American Dreams”.

@Brian1946 That’s awesome that she was on NCIS. I watch that show every week, I can’t believe that I didn’t remember that. Face Palm.
