What would the physical damage be? [Details inside]?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) November 7th, 2011

Imagine there is a person held by both arms and in an upright position. What would be the physical damage to the person held if a person other than the two holding him/her took a homerun swing at their head with a baseball bat? Would the damage be worse if it were an aluminum bat? If wood, would the type of wood make a difference? Would a bumper jack be worse than a bat? How would it change if it were a lead pipe, or heavy length of rebar? Would the placement matter, like the nose as oppose to the forehead? What if the person was held facing away and took the blow to the back of the head?

Wow, this question is really morbid.

What is going on in your head, dude?

It would depend on the strength of the hitter/the force the hitter used. It could easily result in death, I’d think, with any of the weapons/placements you mention.

Little birdies fly around your head & you perfect the gormless moronic grin of your typical looney toons character.

really?

I think any of those tools would kill the person. The real question is, How long have you been off your meds @Hypocrisy_Central ? What would cause you to ask such a question?

Fiction question? I hope?

I’m no expert but I think to the nose would result in the least damage. Broken nose for sure, but maybe not major head trauma (depending on the swinger’s strength). The nose is nature’s shock-absorber.

Source: my dad got hit (accidentally) in the nose with a baseball bat when he was younger and got away with only a broken nose.

Pretty sick question. Are you planning something? If you want to do damage, use a wooden bat because it is slightly heavier and will have a little more inertia.

@Ron_C The Deadliest Warrior TV show made this observation over a good ol’ American Louisville Slugger….

“The Sicilian Mafia reps have this opinion of the Yakuza’s nunchaku. Their preferred wooden instrument of destruction is the all-American baseball bat.”

I’m not even going to think about this any more than it takes to tell you I’m not going to think about it. What a horrible image!

@Cruiser who would know better than the Sicialian Mafia? They are probably the “go to” guys for head bashing.

I would duck.

@Judi What would cause you to ask such a question? Where many questions come from, life and cable. I seen a documentary some time back about some biker club back on the east coast. When someone crossed them, etc they would send the junior members, the wannabees who wanted become ”full patched” members, over to play ”baseball” with that person. The Wannabees were called the ball team. In one of these “innings”, members of the ball team held this guy while on guy took a bat and swung for the fences with the hapless guy’s noggin. They never elucidated what happened to the guy who had his clock cleaned by the bad. That make me remember a scene from some MOB movie where they were going to punish one of their own who stepped over the line some how by giving him a bat to the head, and the guy was pleading like a woman for them not to whack him in the face with the bat. Logically you hit someone in the head because you want them to suffer. If you wanted to kill then, you could just blast them with a shotgun or pistol. Surely, they will get lumped up, black eyes, etc. If they got hit in the nose, it is broken. With all the talk of concussions, I am thinking that would be plausible. However, is coma or brain damage plausible? Is the reason they always choose the front, that the back is more likely to cause death?

Surely not anything, I am planning to do to anyone. There is no way I could look into the eyes of a frightened pleading person and just swing a bat on them. I hate blood, and the sound it would make would haunt me out of a good night’s sleep way longer than I would want.

I know if it were zombies it would not be as squeamish to most people.

The front of the face between the nose and lower would be the more delicate part to crush, cave in or rip away. I’d choose solid metal over hollow or wood- hollow and wood can bounce.

This is pretty gross.

If you hit near the eye then it would probably pop even of you didn’t hit the eye directly.

Is your last name Dahmer, Bundy, Speck, Lucas?

@wundayatta I’m not even going to think about this any more than it takes to tell you I’m not going to think about it. What a horrible image! Wait, we see real depictions of people taking head shots, and their brains becoming pizza toppings, or someone gets blown into pink mist, but some gumbas or goons take a guy down to the docks and give him a bat to the face everyone gets squeamish?

@Coloma Nah, I would have them for breakfast, OK maybe Dahmer would have me for breakfast if I were not careful.
