Do you think it's inappropriate for a former adult film star to read to children at their elementary school?

Would you be ok with this arrangement if it were your kids?

No, it’s not inappropriate. People are capable of having more than one side to them. I wouldn’t care if someone who reads to my kids is a sex worker. They’re not, obviously, offering sex work to my children so people need to chill the hell out.

Oh, for Pete’s sake, of course it’s not inappropriate. Anyone who has elementary school kids who know what she does for a living has a lot more on their plates to deal with than the fact that she’s doing a lovely thing by reading to their children. Geez

I’d have no problem with it & neither should anyone else.
I mean who’s to say a “normal” teacher who reads to little kids every day of the week, doesn’t perform kinky sex with her partner in the privacy of her own home. She may well be a randy little nympho behind closed doors.
My point being, who cares?

I read in the article that she also starred in Babysitters, so she has an affinity with children, I suppose.

I have absolutely no problem with it. She seems a nice well meaning girl, she can read to my kids or even to me any time.

Way to go, Sasha Grey. Give your critics heat.

I have no problem with her reading.

However, I hope that she will not be invited to speak at career counseling day.

Are we afraid that the kids might recognize her or something?

“Mommy, Debbie read to me today, but she said she was from Minnesota, not Dallas!!”

Nope. See above.

Does she have a sign around her neck labeling her? Does she wear inappropriate clothes? Does she speak too softly to be heard beyond the first row? Does she have am accent so thick that the kids can’t tell what she is saying? Does she have obviously draining open sores on her skin? Those might be reasons to feel she is not appropriate to be reading to to children. How she has earned money in the past is less reason to be accusatory.

No. I don’t see how her former career has any bearing on the situation. The kids aren’t going to be aware of her background. The parents are making this a bigger issue than it needs to be. I don’t think a person should be restricted from living a normal life or giving back to the community just because of their (past) chosen profession.

If the child recognizes the star, arrest the parents! Otherwise, no. ;-)

Yes, I think it’s inappropriate.

Since she’s a former adult film star, she should be reading to children at their adult film school, or am I missing something here, people?! ;-o

Sounds like a step up on the moral ladder. Keep climbing!

Well you know. It’s just like the gays. Always recruiting. Can’t let them near children. They’ll pervert our sweet little ones and turn them gay. They have a virus, you know.

Same with porn stars. They will sucker our sweet little things into the porn business. It’s the way they read the stories you know. They lay down these subliminal messages and next thing you know, as soon as the little rapscallions turn 16, it’s off the SoCal and pornsville USA.

I’m just shocked, shocked I tell you, at the blithe way everyone dismisses the inherent dangers of having porn stars in our midst. How would you feel if she was a mother in your community? You know what happens right? As soon as you get in a room with a porn star, everyone tears off their clothes, movie cameras appear out of slots in the walls, and an orgy bursts into action. Next thing you know, the whole world will be one giant porn orgy. Who will make the steel?

@Simone_De_Beauvoir summed it up perfectly.

@wundayatta, your sarcasm is hilarious!

I don’t see what the big deal is.

I have no problem with it at all.

A friend of mine hired Snake Babe to do a kids magic show a few years back. She was awesome. She was appropriately dressed, the humor was tame and she had lots of educational facts about reptiles int the show. Her agent looked a bit sleazy but he wasn’t in the act. When I talked to him, he told me that they usually did adult magic shows and that Snake Babe was a former porn star.

I had no problem with kids seeing her. I noticed lots of the dads didn’t mind watching it over and over either.

let bygones be bygones and who knows there might be a preacher that is married to a porn star or stripper somewhere.

Blondesjon's avatar

Only if he’s reading with his dick?

the judges would have also accepted – as long as she’s not reading lips . . .

If their children know she’s a porn star, that’s not any fault of hers.
It’s just her career, not her foundation as a person. She’s not going to sneak in sexual innuendo or anything just because she’s a porn star. Those kids’ guardians are surely allowed to read to them even though they’ve (presumably) had sex. What’s the difference?

:: mother & father standing at the back of the crowd ::

mother: She’s so good with the kids, dont’cha think honey?

father: Yeah, well…you know who she is, right?

mother: No,who?

:: pause ::

father: Um…nevermind.

Jesus, I can’t even begin to express enough my complete acquiescence to this and to prove it I would fly all the way to Compton to bring a kid for her to read to.
