What is your daily diet like?

Asked by whitetigress (3129points) November 17th, 2011

Along with your daily diet, can you include whether you are slim, medium or husky?
How do you mix your diet up on a weekly basis?

I’m trying to get ideas of what others are doing, so I can help myself and my failed metabolism.

most mornings = bran flakes or toast or porridge depending on how im feeling plus a pint of coffee…
during the day = about 3 pints of tea and leftovers from yesterdays dinner
evening usually pasta or soup or rice and beans.

occasionally a load of ice cream or chocolate

I’m very slim but then again I rarely snack and tend to get a fair few calories from drinking at the weekends. I’m a student and so I will just tend to eat whatever is on offer at the supermarket really: that’s how I mix up my diet as they always change the offers and you can usually find fresh fruit and veg going out of date that day reduced down which I will take home and sometimes freeze as is, or sometimes cook up as a big veg stew and freeze as individual portions. That way I have fresh (frozen) veg to eat everyday and have individual portions so I don’t cook too much and therefore eat too much. Meat is very expensive and so I will rarely buy that and fish is definitely out of my price range as I refuse to buy anything less than sustainably sourced and I won’t eat prawns etc. due to sustainability issues.
I rarely have snacks in my house and when I do they are gone so quickly I am back to no snacks again which I don’t mind not having.
Overall if you buy what’s on offer at the supermarket, there is generally a lot of fresh fruit and veg, then freeze it and have a nice selection of meals at your disposal when you want it.
Also apples/carrots hard fruit and veg will keep for ages in the fridge and so I will always have those around.
Oh and a good selection of growing herb plants will freshen up any meal. (Basil is my favorite)

Coffee until about 1–2pm.

Eggs, toast, bacon for brunch. Maybe something with sugar, yellow Oreo cookies.

Eggs, toast and bacon for dinner, unless I am eating out or bought something to mix it up like a hot pocket or burritos.

2–3 Straight whiskeys after nine.

I take a multivitamin most days and force myself to drink a pitcher of water a day.

Medium build.

I guess I’d be considered ‘medium.’
My meals are all pretty interchangeable; I don’t necessarily just eat a certain thing for breakfast but not for lunch, and lunch but not for dinner, etc.

Typical foods I eat:
-An egg or two (just the whites) and maybe one of those fake sausage links. Sometimes with asparagus and hollandaise sauce (only with much, much less butter than the typical recipe, and much more lemon juice instead. I hate using a lot of butter in food that doesn’t really need it)
-Vegetable sub (whole wheat bread, spinach, tomatoes, avocado instead of mayonnaise, mustard, 2 pieces of swiss cheese, and occasionally veggie (fake meat) deli slices)
-Tofu and vegetables, or couscous and vegetables. (usually either broccoli, zucchini, and squash, or spinach, tomatoes, and cabbage)

I eat lightly salted rice cakes as snacks, and a lot of apples. I have an unfortunate weakness for peanut butter, usually with grapes; it satisfies my sweet tooth. However lately I’ve been having mixed berry, banana, and almond milk smoothies, which is almost as good as ice cream for when I want something sweet, and pretty healthy as well.

I’m trying to cut down on dairy because I think it makes my skin break out, and eat less boxed foods which are of course usually the most unhealthy (cheez its and other snack foods, etc…). I’m not a very picky eater, but I’ve been making a real effort to eat more healthfully lately. Not a diet, just a general effort to eat better. I’ve been doing pretty well aside from the occasional slip-up.

I am short and slim.

I tend avoid breakfast although once or twice a week I will join my colleaugues in a bacon butty!

My main meal of the day tends to be lunch. I will get a hot meal from the cafe at work which is often a jacket potato, pasta dish or baguette.

For tea I will sometimes have a microwaveable meal designed for one or a bowl of cereal.

I probably have one bag of crisps a day (my favourite at the moment are French Fry’s! Other snacks may include a yoghurt, fruit, chocolate (although that is rare as I am not often in the mood for chocolate) or some kind of biscuit.

Normally I am very slim… and short. My daily breakfast for decades has always been a yogurt, banana, 7 pieces of some nut or an egg instead of the banana which gets moved to a snack item. Lunches were whatever I could manage and then a light dinner of foods that would make me feel I’d offset the yuck of lunch takeout or whatever.

This year I am fat but still short.~ My breakfasts have been sporadic, usually a mug of espresso and then off to work where I sit for 10–15hrs straight and gorge on one nasty meal to cover breakfast, lunch and dinner. This is how NOT to eat!

I think I am medium? I am heavier than typical though right now, I guess I am usually the thin side of medium.

My typical days are:

Breakfast: cereal or omelette (egg beaters or egg whites)

Lunch: Some sort of meat, starch, and veggie. Can be like a dinner see dinner description below), or might be a salad in summer months; or, a tuna salad sandwich, usually open face with lettuce as the top of the sandwich; or, hot ham and cheese not grilled; or, pasta of some sort.

Snack: toast or fruit or cereal or soup, sometimes a mini meal.

Dinner: also some sort of meat, starch and veggie. The things I make a lot are chicken either boneless breast or thighs, depending on the dish. Typical is Chicken Captain (a tomato base) with pasta. Chicken with mushrooms (I make this rarely, maybe 1 time every two months, because it has cream soup in it). Baked chicken. Breaded pork chops. Plain pork chops. Steak, either sirloin or strip prepared with a rub. Meatloaf. Meatballs.

The sides for dinner as I said is usually one starch (baked potato, mashed potatoes, rice, tortillas, tator tots, pasta. Typical veggies (grilled asparagus, green beens sauteed or microwaved, peas, mushrooms, raw salad, spinach, corn). I never make cheese sauces for veggies, I do once in a blue moon melt mozerella on brocolli, but I eat that maybe 4 times a year.

Also in my diet about once a week are legumes like beans. Rice and beans, refried beans, bean salad, chickpeas in salads, hummus. When I want to lose weight I usually increase my legumes intake, I probably should go back to doing that.

I should mention I do eat frozen food, like a Stouffers, two to three times a week for convenience. I usually add my own veggie.

Although, I have been trying to eat two vegan meals a week.

I have gained weight because I started eating more cheese lately, also eating some bigger portions, and dessert at times. Ugh. Gotta get back to a healthier diet. I notice most heavy people usually cook with much more fat than I do, or eat out in restaurants more. I very rarely eat snack foods like chips and crackers.

For breakfast a roasted crankshaft coffee/hot chocolate and a bagel with cream cheese.

For lunch, an entirely suckling pig a hoagie/grinder/cheesesteak or sandwich or slice of pizza. These tend to be too big, and I try to resist the urge to eat it all even if I am full.

Snack, a bale of hay cheese and crackers and/or an apple or other fresh fruit.

For dinner, three lima beans and a lettuce leaf vegie, meat and starch.

Dessert: television monitor ice cream, cookie, or whatever.

Midnight snack: a guitar avocado sandwich or piece of fruit.
