When you're tense about something, where does it show up in your body?

What part of you is most affected when you get tense? Head? Stomach? Back? Shoulders? islets of Langerhans?

Neck and shoulders. That’s why I’m an avid believer in massage therapy!

In the short term it is the stomach, in the long(er) term the hip joints.
In the even longer term fortunately that doesn’t happen much it is my jaws.

Eye twitches.

AmWiser's avatar

Mostly it’s the tightening of the jaw.

My jaw muscles tighten, my hands clench and my legs go rigid if I’m standing up.

Back ache, eye twitches, sciatic nerve gets pinched.

Subtly in my shoulders and neck, which tense up and give me a headache.

When it gets really really bad stress, I will throw my back out doing something minor. My lower back muscles seem to freeze almost like a cramp.

straight across my chest.

I used to think it was my shoulders, and it DOES show up there, but after 6 months of doing yoga almost daily I have discovered that there is a lot of repressed stress in my hips and hamstrings too.

My head (and sinuses as I’m prone to crying when under stress), eyes (strained and tired), and stomach (which knots up tight.)

Lower back, always.

My hands and chest.

Apparently I’ look pretty tense all the time. So I don’t know if it actually shows when I really am tense about something.

In my eyes. My intense nature makes me somewhat intimidating,. Often misconstrued, I am trying to make sense of the situation, but may be interpreted as aggressive. Since i am very respectful of all, it sometimes makes me sad to be so misunderstood.

In my brain. I don’t think or reason as clearly. I feel kind of stunned. Fortunately, it doesn’t happen often.

I tend to get an upset stomach. Since I have fibromyalgia, and it’s worsened by stress, I also feel it in every square inch of my body, from the neck down.

Shoulders. Neck. Digestive tract.

I find my stomach clenched. Never have any incidents INSIDE, but I’ll notice I’m clenching to the point that I’m a little bent over. When I’m not feeling stress, I’m just a little bent.

I get a headache when I am feeling tense/stressed. If the stress goes on for too long (more than a day) I get a coldsore.

If I am worried about something to the point of feeling panicky I need to go to the toilet and will have the constant urge to pee even if it has only been 5 minutes since my last pee!

My throat tends to tighten, sometimes greatly. Also my stomach tightens up as well and hurts alot.
