Are you sick of any Christmas songs yet?

Asked by 6rant6 (13700points) November 23rd, 2011

I’ve got Burl Ives in my head singing, “Holly Jolly Christmas,” and it it just occurred to me how stupid the lyrics are. “In case you didn’t hear…” Give me a break!

Any songs getting on your nerves yet?

I am happy to say I haven’t heard any yet. My wife, on the other hand, is still sick of all of them from last year.

OpryLeigh's avatar

I haven’t heard any Christmas songs played on the radio yet. Thank God.

Michael_Huntington's avatar

They’ve been on my nerves for years. I don’t know how anyone can stand such nauseating tripe.

inb4 anyone gets mad, different strokes for different folks, taste is subjective, all that jazz.

marinelife's avatar

No, I haven’t started playing or listening to Christmas music yet. I wait until after Thanksgiving.

Aethelflaed's avatar

Yes. It’s not Christmas songs, per say, so much as the small selection of Christmas songs that will be actually played each year, ad nauseam, with no variation for years and years and years. Seriously, the mp3 player/portable cd player/Walkman is one of the greatest inventions of all time, always being able to say “nope, not listening to your department store mishaps”.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

I haven’t heard any yet. Can’t wait to hear Gramma Got Runover By A Reindeer.

Come on, don’t hate on Burl Ives. He is the single most optimistic and pleasant and jolly and Santa-like old grandpa character you could imagine. If you wanna hate on Christmas songs, go for the new, stupid ass songs like “Mary Did you know”, especially the Clay Aiken version, or those depressing, ruin-the-holidays song about the kid whose mom is dying of cancer. REALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES, I WAS SICK OF THAT ONE THE FIRST TIME I HEARD IT BECAUSE IT SQUASHES THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS.

Sorry I’m very into Christmas songs. lol

Only one FM station in Nashville began playing Christmas music the 1st day of November. I avoid that station for right now. I am not ready for Christmas music before Thanksgiving. I think it is bad programming for a radio station to do this.

I just keep listening to my oldies station and keep a smile on my face.

Jude's avatar

Haven’t heard any. I only play cds in my car (or my iPod). I have avoided the stores, thus far. Yay!

I love, Love, LOVE Christmas music. I’ve only heard a little bit, so far. Although I’ve already downloaded a bunch of it that one of my friends let me borrow. My family probably has at least a hundred Xmas CD’s and we usually wait until Thanksgiving day to bust them out. So when my friend showed me her collection, I got very excited. She had about as much as we did, and ¾ of her CD’s were ones that I didn’t have! Yea!

Skating from the Charlie Brown Special is my favorite Xmas song of all time.

Although Pie Jesu by this little girl named Jackie Evancho is a contender!

Yeah, years ago.

@john65pennington,I live in Ohio. One station here started BEFORE Halloween. I’m a volunteer at a RedCross Fixed donation site near home. Last year I was subjected to Christmas music after October, and I’m sick of Christmas music the second I begin hearing any. Luckily, though, someone pointed out this year that Christmas music wasn’t acceptable at any government locations. I probably won’t be able to escape all Christmas music but at least I won’t have to hear weeks of it!

I was put on hold for a tech company last week. They had Christmas songs. And the volume was turned up so loud that it was mostly static over my cell phone. Morons.

Coloma's avatar

One of my favorite mixed rock/oldies/90’s radio stations has gone Xmas the last few weeks. I do like SOME Xmas music, but, not a steady infusion.

I was singing along with “Feliz Navidad” last night rockin’ down the highway through my river canyon at sunset…THAT was a good time! haha

deni's avatar

I could listen to Melekelikimaka all day every day. I did not google that and have nooooooooo idea if I spelled it right. It’s the Hawaiian Christmas song.

deni's avatar

Precisely!

mangeons's avatar

Tired of Christmas songs? Impossible! We found a station that’s playing nonstop Christmas music right now, and I’ve been listening to Christmas music for about a week!

digitalimpression's avatar

I will never be tired of Christmas songs.

@deni That’s a great song!

amujinx's avatar

As far as I’m concerned this NSFW Christmas song is the only acceptable Christmas music.

Neizvestnaya's avatar

Thank goodness I haven’t heard any yet. Our business’s satellite station is a specific music playlist. I’m not opposed to Christmas music if it’s instrumental, more on the classical side than jazz side. I haven’t listened to a radio station though since the 1980’s when it became so bad, I turned it off.

EmptyNest's avatar

They’re playing them here on my favorite station on the radio but I don’t listen to them. They started weeks ago. It’s very, very annoying.

Coloma's avatar

…...giddy up jingle horse, pick up your feet…. there ya go…a little Jingle Bell rock on the brain for you guys. LOL

Kardamom's avatar

And to go along with that song, a little Christmas Scene

just to get you in the mood

MilkyWay's avatar

No, not yet.

GracieT's avatar

Update: the non-Christmas music station that saved me from nothing but Christmas music now is nothing but static. Because we must have something to protect the privacy of our donors, it has to be something. Now the only station that is adult contemporary is the one playing nothing but Christmas music, 24/7. NOOO… PLEASE make it stop!

dappled_leaves's avatar

I should really break mine out… I have an extensive collection of pop and new wave Christmas songs from the 80’s. :P

saint's avatar

I love Christmas songs.

Berserker's avatar

Actually, I like Christmas songs. I like the more dark and serious ones though. If you can actually call any Xmas song dark…not the right word. But the more epic ones? Like Holy Night. Faaaaaall on your kneeeeees…Cmon man, that’s awesome. Not a fan of Xmas itself, but I denno, I think a lot of the music is pretty cool.

Aethelflaed's avatar

@Symbeline The lyrics or the sound?

Berserker's avatar

Actually, both. I prefer the French version for the lyrics though, it sounds so much more poetic. But what draws me to that particular song (and others similar to it) has always been the music. Reminds me of O Fortuna, but not as pissed off lol.

Coloma's avatar

Santa baby hurry up my chimney tonight! lol

Rarebear's avatar

I love Christmas music, actually.

woodcutter's avatar

I like the music. It’s only once a year so I can bear it. Right now what is really pissing me off are those Target commercials, with the crazy chick orgasming to a store circular and doing extreme training to attack the Target store on black Friday. This is what a portrait of meth is like.

cookieman's avatar

I like Christmas music.

My favorite songs are Merry Little Christmas and River.

But, I listen to my own collection of Christmas tunes on my iPod (Ray Charles’ Little Drummer Boy is amazing).

I haven’t listened to broadcast radio in over five years.

woodcutter's avatar

I wish I would hear more Mannheim Steamroller songs now. Every now and then I think I catch one but it seems rare.

kirsh's avatar

My God, make the bells stop ringing and stop the christmas music singing!!!!! :) Very already tired of it!

Pele's avatar

Bring it!!!!!!!! I love Xmas

Kardamom's avatar

@Symbeline these are for you, dearest.

In Dulci Jubilo

The Holly and the Ivy

Carol of the Bells

Enfant de Palestine (this one is actually in French, a nifty French kids chorus!)

Berserker's avatar

Carol of the Bells! I love that song, and wanted to mention it in my post. But for some stupid reason, I can never remmeber the title. Ever. Thank you. ^^

The Enfants de Palestine gives me Carol of the Bells though. XD Lookin for it on Youtube though.

lonelydragon's avatar

I’ve never been fond of “The Little Drummer Boy”.

Kardamom's avatar

@lonelydragon You just need a little bit more rum in your rum a pum pum. Then you’ll like it. : )

Berserker's avatar

I like Little Drummer Boy by Celtic Women. Anyone familiar with them? They sing a whole buncha Christmas songs.

Kardamom's avatar

@Symbeline Oh yes! I love them, they do a version of You Raise Me Up that puts Josh Groban to shame : )

And I like Josh Groban

Countrybumkin's avatar

I would be fine if i never heard another one.

Pele's avatar

Christmas music reminds me of my very happy childhood.
