Is "drama" an academic area of interest?

Asked by Earthflag (549points) November 23rd, 2011

I’m writing my application. It asks me to write about an academic area of interest in the campus. I will major in performing arts, but I do not know if that is right to say… Any ideas?

I think the academic area is Performing Arts. There will be subheadings under that category.

Yes, preforming arts is correct. You can elaborate and say you want to do drama or theater.

@Aethelflaed Hmm.. and what is different between drama and theater?

I think the terms are pretty much interchangeable. Some schools will have a dram department; others will call it the theater department. You might check the catalog or Web site for the college you are applying to and see what they call it.

Most colleges have seemed to use the word theatre pertaining to the drama arts department. They are interchangable as stated above. What matters is you put down what degree you are deadset on getting. For instance, “I want to major in the Performing Arts and receive my B.A.” My current major is Art with an emphasis in multi-media. So I’ll take Art History classes, probably like you’ll take theatre history classes but you can branch into dance (different forms) drama, and etc.

If you are interested in drama, then talk about drama. If you are interested in performing arts, then talk about that. This is an application. They want to know what you are passionate about. Whatever you are most passionate about, that’s what you should write about. You should talk about what you are passionate about (describe it in detail) and why you are so excited to study it. It matters not what you call it. What matters is that you express your passion.
