Tripping on three tablespoons of nutmeg?

Asked by chloejfisher (44points) December 1st, 2011

Almost five hours ago, I ingested two tablespoons of pre-ground nutmeg. I wasn’t feeling anything so I took another tablespoon about two hours ago.
Just wondering… has anyone tried this before and does it work?
If so, have I taken the right amount or should I take more?
I weigh about 170 lbs.

Eating nutmeg to trip is a myth.

You have to smoke it.

chloejfisher's avatar

@Blondesjon that is the opposite of what I’ve heard from everyone else.. have you done it before?

Don’t listen to @Blondesjon. Plus, why are you so desperate to trip?

chloejfisher's avatar

@JLeslie I’m not really. I was just bored. I’ll try anything hahaha. I’ve heard that the peak is in about six hours… and I ingested the stuff five hours ago. I’m just wondering if I should take more because I’m definitely not tripping.

Just say no.

How exactly does one ingest 3 T of ground nutmeg. It is a fine powder and would be hard to emulsify (is that the word I want?).

[Mod says:] Personal attacks off, please.

As for your question, I know people who have tripped on nutmeg before. It will make you very, very sick. Just smoke some salvia or something if you really want to trip that badly.

again, it’s not like I’m desperate to trip. I have acid and salvia. I just wanted to give this a shot.

“Effects:
Possible nausea during first hour; may cause vomiting or diarrhea in isolated cases. Takes anywhere from one to five hours for effects to set in. Then expect severe cottonmouth, flushing of skin, severely bloodshot eyes, dilated pupils. Personally I compare it to a very, very heavy hash buzz. “Intense sedation”. Impaired speech and motor functions. Hallucinations uncommon in average (5–10 gm) doses. Generally followed by long, deep, almost coma-like sleep (expect 16 hours of sleep afterward) and feelings of lethargy after sleep. May cause constipation, water retention. Safrole is carcinogenic and toxic to the liver.”

Not fun. The suggested ‘dose’ is 5–20 grams of fresh nutmeg, so I would guess you’ve taken a bit much already. I wouldn’t eat anymore.

It’s barely a trip and it can make you really sick. Don’t bother. If it was actually worth doing it would be illegal, or heavily regulated, like all the the other really good drugs are.

It might be easier to take sprinkled on a mug of Tom and Jerry, which is great on a cold night before a fire.

I have heard nothing but awful things about what nutmeg does to you.

I can’t understand how you can want to do something like this after being horribly ill just a few days ago. You know that isn’t safe, right?

Can’t we go off-fucking-topic yet? Sheesh – you’d think this is rocket science. Here, I’ll even whisper. Tom and Jerry? Have you been sniffing the nutmeg, too @Sunny2?

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

Don’t try it. It takes a large dose, the side affects are brutal, and as mentioned, it’s possible it’s toxic. Definately a case where the downside is a lot bigger than any upside.

My husband has done it, when he was younger and when he couldn’t find any mushrooms.

He says it worked, somewhat, but he came away with a nasty headache.

@zensky Only when I grate it for pumpkin pie. But Tom and Jerrys are a great hot rum and some kind of high calorie egg mixture sprinkled with nutmeg. I have fond memories of it when I lived in cold climes. (a small town in Minnesota)

@chloejfisher Thanks for checking in. I’m glad to hear there were no problems for you.

But please be careful.

Signed,

Been there, done that.

@bkcunningham LOL. No, not nutmeg. I did all that “stuff” a very, very long time ago, and certainly not anymore, not for many years. It was the 70s, you know? I guess the “been there done that thing was” added so that the OP would understand that my advice wasn’t just coming from some middle aged fogey who knew nothing. One time almost an entire door full of kids at my college took nutmeg and it turned out pretty badly for most of them, severe headaches, lots of vomiting if I remember, some uncomfortable psychological effects, not really much fun for any of them. The stuff can be dangerous and just because it worked out fine for the OP once doesn’t mean it will every time.
