5 hours is a long time between births, she may only have had a single kitten, but…if you are bothering her a lot, she feels stressed, she may be delaying labor.

Is she still showing signs of contractions, straining?

I’d keep a close eye on her, but, don’t disturb her too much.

If she is showing signs of straining but no birth she may have a large kitten stuck in the birth canal, or a breech kitten.

You will know by her behavior, and, if this is the case she will need emergency attention.

No she seems calm enough. Just laying there seemingly content and tired. I rubbed her and she purred. She doesn’t seem stressed at all.

@silky1

Well…looks like she has an only child…that’s great! Maybe you can keep her baby, and then, get her fixed kiddo! I just adopted a new kitty at the shelter, so many need homes! Yay, you’re a kitten grandma! Feed mama cat LOTS of good food! ”-)

Is she a young cat?

The only way to know how many kittens may be present is by radiograph. They can sometimes stop labor for up to 24 hours. If she is in active labor (visibly pushing) for more than 30–45 minutes, you need to call a veterinarian immediately. As soon as the kittens begin weaning, be sure to be a responsible pet owner and have her spayed to prevent further litters.

As cats get older and have mulitple litters, the litters get smaller. How is the kitten? Is the mommy cat attending to it and nursing?

Thanks everyone all is fine . She just had the one and both kitten and mom are fine so far.

I’d take it back to the store and demand a refund…I want more than one kitten out of this cat!
