(nsfw- if you make it like that) Know any benefits from abstaining masturbation?

Asked by Male (1353points) December 25th, 2011

I’ve been doing some reading and saw a lot of positive health benefits to stopping self-pleasure. The most popular include…

mentally:
– increased energy
– increased focus and concentration
– desire to go out and hunt for women
– increased confidence, aggressiveness, and boldness
– a carefree attitude towards negatives in life
– become more sociable

physically:
– increased testosterone levels
– increased blood flow during erections
– more powerful orgasms during sex

Personally, I’ve tried abstaining and the increased energy was definitely noticeable. I would sleep at late hours and wake up 5–6 hours later with the feeling of a full night’s rest. I also got annoyed and frustrated much more easily, and I was slightly more aggressive. I also felt more confident around other people and didn’t care about what they thought or what they said (if I chose not to). I don’t know if it was all a placebo or not, but what happened was definitely there. It’s life-changing…literally.

Anyone know some derived benefits from abstaining, or have any personal experiences?

Wow. So much focus and emphasis on masturbation. For me, it’s rather like sneezing. An occasional physical urge and release, not something that I spend much time or energy on. If I abstain for some reason, the only difference that I note is an mild increase in horniness.

I think maybe you answered your own question. I can’t add to your list. I can give a reason FOR masturbation. It’s fun!

Where are you getting your info? Because mine says a lot of those are things that come with masturbation, not abstaining, like being more sociable, having more powerful orgasms, having a more positive outlook on life. Also, “desire to go out and hunt for women” and “aggressiveness” are not positives. Women are not prizes to be captured, and aggressive tends to sound more like “gets in fights” than “stands up for self”.

The only benefit I know of that comes from abstaining is less clean up.

You get more time to do things like matter to you or think about life etc…

There are no benefits that come from restraining. I can’t imagine going more than 48 hours.

Hmmm… The only thing I can think of is for the sake of having multiple large messy orgasms during sex…

So wait. All I have to do is give up orgasms on a daily basis, and I get to become more easily annoyed, frustrated and more aggressive? What a deal!

I don’t think it’s always a good idea. I’m in the military currently serving a mandatory duty (The gift of Greek citizenship to males). I haven’t touched myself I don’t even know in how long. It’s definitely not giving me more energy. If anything I feel a bit more frustrated. Barely time to pee in my regular days… I’m on an outing now and half-studying for an officer exam.

I must agree on the symptom of wanting to go out and spend time with women. But you feel a bit like a woman-starved sailor, rather than a more relaxed casual feeling. I don’t think it’s necessarily a good thing.

There are negatives to NOT masturbating. Significant research has been done on the effect or masturbation on your prostate – regular ejaculation (whether with a partner or by masturbation) has a positive effect on your prostate gland.

Therefore you are actually negatively affecting your health by NOT playing with yourself.

Make your own decision. Different strokes for different folks.

It feels better when you break a round of abstinence? My sex drive is far too high to forego masturbation entirely. I’ve done so “by accident” and the people around me pay a price. I don’t mean to be a bitch, but… <shrugs>

Actually, there are a lot of health benefits to masturbation. You can just google those since you have all the free time now.

@Simone_De_Beauvoir – a little sarcasm, perhaps?

Blowing a massive, awesome load when you finally start back up again? That’s all I got.

Do you happen to be from India, @Male?

Mental benefits:
increased energy: A positive but I doubt this is due to abstaining.
increased focus and concentration: Actually I would say the reverse is true here.
desire to go out and hunt for women: Not a positive trait in my book and this sounds like more self-help conformist drabble.
increased confidence, aggressiveness, and boldness: Not necessarily positive traits in my book either and again sounds more like ill-advised self-help conformist nonsense. Confidence is not necessarily a bad thing in itself but in the way it is being used here it surely is.
a carefree attitude towards negatives in life: More from the lost art of manliness website? AskMen? DeAngelo? I ask this because the way you are wording these ‘benefits’ makes it sound like they came from a self-help article rather than any actual medical study.
become more sociable: I doubt this is related to masturbating_.

Physical benefits:
increased testosterone levels
increased blood flow during erections
more powerful orgasms during sex
Well I’ve heard that those benefits are actually increased with masturbation, with everything in moderation that is, but to each their own I say.
