Why don't the speakers on my Toshiba laptop work?

Asked by emeraldisles (1949points) December 29th, 2011

The speakers don’t work at all. I have it turned up to the highest setting and there’s still no sound at all. They worked well befre. All of a sudden one day last week, no sound came out of the speakers from the laptop. What can I do?

How old is your laptop? Did it receive any damage recently? Any viruses?

Check if there are any missing drivers.

A good way to test if there is any signal being processed at all is to put in some headphones. If the head phones work then it might be fine and just a technical problem as opposed to some physical wiring. Check your iTunes, RealPlayer or whatever media it is that you use and check the volume knob on that. If that doesn’t work, call Toshiba’s help line.

Have you checked the advanced settings for the volume control? Make sure the mute thing isn’t clicked. That has happened to me before.

No the laptop is 2 months old.I have nothing clicked that would make it go mute.

Do headphones work for you?

emeraldisles's avatar

No I tried plugging in my headphones and stll no sound.

If system sound settings are ok, and if you’re sure you didn’t mute the sound, then I suggest you contact Toshiba about your problem.
