Why doesn't anyone hang out at the watering hole anymore?

Asked by InkyAnn (2441points) January 4th, 2012

Ive noticed that for a while now no one ever goes into the chat anymore. And when they do, no one ever talks. Ill go in there even if I see that there is only one person in there and say hi. I rarely get a response back. And this goes on for hours! The other night I was so happy because there were like 8 people in the watering hole, not one single person was talking. I said my normal “Hello!” and never got a Hi back. Everyone just eventually left the room. I remember years ago when you would go in there and half of the members would be in there . EVERYONE would be talking and chatting away to each other.

How come we don’t socialize any more?

There are just not that many folks here anymore. I miss it too.

Oh you are one of the offenders! Haha. That other night I was talking about, you were in there too :p And I remember you use to go in there alot too. Is there anywhere where we can see how many people are members?

I like the watering hole but it’s usually just full of ghosts, as you say. Kind of a bummer to be the only one in there… maybe if they had cable and a cooler full of beverages?

InkyAnn's avatar

@Blueroses Hahaha! well come join me then!

Where is this “watering hole” you speak of?

InkyAnn's avatar

@AnonymousGirl At the top of your screen, next to the search box youll see the “chat” button. click it and it will take you to a screen that has chat rooms, one is the watering hole.

AnonymousWoman's avatar

Oh. I see it now. Thanks! :)

I chased everyone out, back when I was in there, talking about poop, murder and all. XD

But yeah, it’s been empty for a long time, or at least, really inactive. Fluther itself did go a bit snail style for a good while now, so I guess maybe that can be why.

InkyAnn's avatar

well its full right now ^_^

Berserker's avatar

Hey it is. Why the hell do all you people always go in there so freakin late? :D Imma go say hi though. :)

jerv's avatar

I am in and out of Fluther a few minutes at a time throughout the day. Many times, i am at work on my phone during a break and don’t have time. Other times i am merely bouncing around as only a person with no attention span can.

I am a Watering Hole bot.

InkyAnn's avatar

your not in there now with us lol

AnonymousWoman's avatar

That place is fun. I think I might visit it more often. :)

It seems to take a thread (not unlike this one) to get the chat jumping. I think most of us forget about it, since it is usually empty.

InkyAnn's avatar

Maybe ill post a thread once a day about it to remind people lol

You know, it would be a cool idea to connect a pandorabot to the watering hole and leave it running on a server, so that there would be something in there. IF anyone has a idea on how it might be done I have a server I run 24/7 I could run it on.

Hmmm

I guess it’s all dried up!... Hah!... yeah? nothing?...

I find the chat room process very tedious. I can’t type that fast and the lag time in responses is off-putting. I’m impatient. PMs are better to me because you don’t expect an immediate response. More like snail mail.

You are all wieners that bail in 30 seconds when you see it is dead. Maybe if you kept the tab open and browsed in another tab while waiting for someone else to come in it would be active. It modifies the tab showing activity like this.

And the list of users is completely inaccurate. You have to click the log out button to be removed. Closing the tab will still show you in there.

harple's avatar

Yeah, as @johnpowell says, if you don’t actively click that you are leaving the room, it says you’re still in there… Eventually it will say you’ve left the room for having been idle, but that’s a loooooooong time after.

Blueroses's avatar

Actually, I don’t think it logs you off (idle) at all until there’s actual activity in the room. That’s why you can go in when it looks like there are folks around and as soon as you say “hello”, :::click::: :::click::: all the ghosts vanish.

XOIIO's avatar

@Blueroses Ghosts in the machine

AnonymousWoman's avatar

Really? I left the room this morning by clicking “Leave Room” and it still showed me in there. I assumed that if I was out of there for a while, it would eventually show me as gone…

Blueroses's avatar

Chat room is open now and @johnpowell appears to be the ghost.

Berserker's avatar

@Blueroses I love the whole ghost thing you came up with. Now I’m gonna go bunk out in the watering hole, and do me some ghost hunting. :D

InkyAnn's avatar

I tried to call The Ghost Busters earlier.

FutureMemory's avatar

I’ve gone in there a few times tonight, but everyone quickly ‘leaves’ (idle).

In there now (2:25am Pacific) if anyone is awake?

FutureMemory's avatar

Two of us in there now….anyone else?
