How can I enable wireless on Ubuntu?

I need very clear and simple instructions as to how to get my home wireless appear in the dropdown list of connections on Ubuntu.
I remember having had and solved this problem once before on my now extinct Ubuntu OS HD. I just can’t seem to remember how to solve such a simple problem.
