How do you hold your iPad? Portrait or landscape?

Asked by Sponge (541points) January 7th, 2012

I always use mine in landscape mode as I call it computer mode,if I download an app that doesn’t support landscape mode it gets quickly deleted. So how do hold your tablet?

Usually portrait for reading/social networking; occasionally landscape for viewing.

Almost always landscape (horizontal) except when I’m reading comic books on it. Then it’s portrait (vertical).

I also usually lock the orientation as I hate when it rotates around.

@cprevite Besides, you can balance your cookies better on it.

@janbb: Sorry, no cookies near the iPad as it’s my wife’s. I just use it occasionally.

First of, I would never own an iPad or any other 10” tablet. I strongly prefer the 7” form factor as i can hold it in one hand. Anything that requires more than that amount of screen is better done on my laptop.

For most things, I go in Portrait mode on my tablet because i like a narrow keyboard, and because it’s easier to hold that way. However, my phone often winds up in Landscape when i am typing. As for reading, portrait fits most things I have better.

Note also that i never have mine on a table. I find that to defeat the purpose of a tablet, which i consider to be something for when a laptop is either overkill or just too big. Similar logic applies to my disdain for laptops over five pounds, or with a battery life under six hours. Portable electronics are portable; if you are going to use it like a desktop, then save some money and just get a desktop!

Landscape usually.

Not an iPad, but probably still relevant for your question :P I hold my (pretty low-end) tablet in landscape position, though I hardly use it, mostly just browsing, so I like viewing websites like I do on my laptop. Sometimes when I read some papers I use portrait mode, but only when they’re ordered up into columns – I just zoom in to a single column.
