A question on names of (imaginary) companies that feature in television series (such as Law & Order).

Asked by rebbel (35549points) January 8th, 2012

In television series there are companies mentioned in the scripts.
In Law & Order for example it can be imaginary dating websites, bars, laywers offices, car rental services, etc.
Who comes up with these names (I assume they are made up and not taken from the Yellow Pages)?
Are there copywriters that do this, or is it the writer of the series, or maybe the actors themselves?

As an extra question, because it is always fun to see what you creative Jellies come up with:
Care to come with some funny, cheesy, witty, naughty company names that could be featured in any Law & Order episode?
A dating website called…....
A S&M shop called….
A coffee shop called…...

Copywriters do all of this. They also use imaginery telephone numbers, If you have ever noticed that shows filmed in California, always start with 555–0000. Its been this way for many years.
