Are there things you find attractive you wish you did not?

Asked by Imadethisupwithnoforethought (14682points) January 11th, 2012

Is there something you find attractive in a potential partner that makes you loathe yourself for liking?

Some character quirk in another you repeatedly, and stupidly, fall for?

Yes. Reminder to self: Musician/artist types are not necessarily deep and poetic. They are often childish, self-indulgent twats.

Cockiness. I try so hard to ignore the fact that I like it, but it gets me every damn time.

Intelligence and a good will towards nature, because that shit is hard too find or they’re taken already.

Not really. The weird things I find attractive (like big noses) often deem someone a “reject” for others, so I have less competition! Wahoo!

Berserker's avatar

As long as I keep it to myself, no. Lol.

Hmmm… I always end up getting attracted to the jerks.

I am attracted to skinny guys with large noses, like Adrian Brody. If they look like a drug addict then I am usually attracted to them. lol I also like a nice head of hair on a guy or curly hair. I will melt if I hear a Scottish accent… hmmmmm

Super confident ones. When you flip that coin, it comes up heads: shiny for decisions and getting things done but tails: they are “always” right.

Yeah, but I can’t share it in this thread. Ask again with a [NSFW} label before the question. :-)

I can’t think of anything. There must be something. When I was younger I was more likely to stick with someone who was not really being good to me, but it was not so much I was attracted, more like I hung on once I had already started dating them.

Mike Fisher. But it may be because he get’s to do Carrie Underwood.

@sliceswiththings So you too, like Mr. Alan Rickmand and Sir Ben Kingsley, eh?

FutureMemory's avatar

No.

In order for me to find a character trait attractive it generally must have clear and obvious merit.

For example I could care less about hair color on women, because there is no clear reason to prefer one color over another.

Berserker's avatar

@FutureMemory You’re a million percent right on that one. But what about personal preferences? Those never have anything to do with reason lol.

FutureMemory's avatar

I wouldn’t let them be the deciding factors.

JLeslie's avatar

There are many things I find attractive or have personal preferences for, but I would not say I wish I didn’t, even though a lot of the things are fairly trivial. I like dark hair. I like between 5’10” and 6’. I like medium to slightly overweight build. I do not like very muscular. I like someone who dresses towrds the metrosexual side, but also likes jeans and a tshirt. I like men who are not obsessed with watching sports, but ok if they like some. I like men who can dance, they don’t have to be fabulous on the dance floor, but I care that they enjoy dancing. I like someone who enjoys watching TV together. Damn, I hit the jackpot with my husband!

Yes. “Other” women.

I think skinny blonde girls are really hot.

I’m really attracted to nerdy, academic types. If the person knows a dead language or is more comfortable around books than people, I’m so there. This is a bad thing because it leads to a lot of inappropriate crushes on teachers.

augustlan's avatar

Intelligence, because there’s a risk of know-it-all-itis, and it makes me feel elitist. Also, some guys look really hot with a cigarette hanging out of their mouth. As a smoker myself, it’s not that I’m turned off by smoking… but I wish I was!

Keep_on_running's avatar

@Haleth Ditto. I had an intellectual crush on one of my 60+ year old teachers back in school.

Facade's avatar

I like athletes, but a lot of them are egotistical and way too aggressive. But, I can’t get over their sculpted bodies and confidence.

Ayesha's avatar

I get attracted to assholes. Yup, the jerks. Can’t help it.

rebbel's avatar

Limping, squintish girls with a lisp.

LezboPirate's avatar

I like a nice Joan Jett quality to my women. And then a whole lot of other things that completely contradict that.

Aesthetic_Mess's avatar

Tattoos and cockiness as in guys who are gorgeous and know they are gorgeous
Oh, and sort of lanky guys. I don’t mean drug addict thin, but I am attracted to guys that are not insanely muscular like The Rock although he is “fine”

ETpro's avatar

Oh, OK; I’ve got one that’s cleared for GP audiences. Billy Mays. As irritating as his constant infomercials were, I never realized I admired his moxxy till he upped and died on us.

Yeah, go ahead. Hate on me. I actually LIKE Billy Mays.

LezboPirate's avatar

..Everybody I know liked him. Not I, I didn’t care either way.
