What are 3 factors needed to produce fossil fuels from organic residue?

Asked by NostalgicChills (2787points) January 12th, 2012

My Chem teacher gave us the “delight” of finishing a packet without any resources whatsoever. (no textbook, online textbook, and Google, believe it or not, is not much of a help)

This may or may not be the easiest question ever and I might feel stupid for asking it, but I seriously don’t know it and can’t find it online.
So, what are three factors needed to produce fossil fuels from organic residue?

I have some guesses but it’s tricky because we’re not supposed to answer homework questions directly here on Fluther. Here’s a hint as to one of my ideas: fossil fuels are considered non-renewable because….? If you still don’t get it I can elaborate.

Try looking up how things decompose for starters. Think about where you find fossil fuels, and how they got there. Go to the library, and tell your librarian that you are looking for resource books on these subjects

Well, one hint is in the conditions under which fossil fuels are found: buried very deep under the ground. that rhymes :)

Think of what they call the fuels and what allows combustion.

Sorry, don’t help with homework. Look up formation of fossil fuels.
