Do you know the new mansion dwellers as they are announced?

Asked by Sunny2 (18842points) January 19th, 2012

I’m amazed that people who’ve been around 10, 20, thousand GA points and I’ve never noticed them before. Why or how would this be? Does it happen to everybody or am I just inattentive?

Some I know instantly, some I have to look up.
Often, the member has been around for a while, yet was slow to achieve the 10K, and I am amazed, since I thought they were already past that.

Happens to me too, every once in a while.
For example, I only know you, @Sunny2, since about 5000 lurve.
What helps (for me) is when I receive a PM rom a member, from that moment I don’t forget them, and/or they won’t go unnoticed anymore.
Interesting to consider if there have been older as in long time members Jellies that have thought “Who the F is that guy rebbel that is answering my question…”

The last few I haven’t seen in years. But that’s the thing. They’ve been here for years.

People do catch me unawares sometimes. Not sure why but perhaps they have taken a break or maybe I am just unobservant (entirely possible). Other people stand out from day one. One of those weird Fluther things I think.

I am surprised how fast some users reach 10k (in just a few short months). It took me about a year to reach that amount and I was a daily user. The population has grown a bit since then. I do recognize the users who receive 20k and beyond because they’ve been around when I’ve been my busiest here.

I do remember a party not too long ago for a long time user who has been here much longer than I have. I believe this person reached 20k and about half the users who answered the party Q didn’t even know who this person was. She used to be a regular but life got busy and she hadn’t been around much for a good year.

I’ve noticed a few long-timers who are about to reach a milestone but may not have been around much lately. Keep an eye out for more you may not recognize. ;)

I occasionally do not know someone who has reached 10K.

Nope.

But then I’m new myself.

Does a double take at @Zensky….

@zensky I was just thinking about where you had gone off to. Welcome back.

I recognize some. Most I do not. I congratulate all the same.

I have almost always noticed people by the time they get to 10K.

If I don’t know the person immediately, I’ll go into their q/a history. If I remember them from that info, I’ll give my hearty congrats! I really like to give a personal and genuine congratulatory message. If I honestly don’t remember the person from any situation, I’ll stay away from the party thread. Not that they don’t deserve it, but I have nothing of value to contribute.

Actually, I usually go to the history of those I don’t recognize and it helps me get familiar with people I don’t know. Those who never wrote anything remain unrecognized. (As I write this, I realize I didn’t say much that tells anything much about me on my page either.) Hmm. I’ll have to think about that.

I’ve been on/off of Fluther for more than 2 years now and there are quite a few that I never heard of before.
