What are some of the worst roles you think specific actors have taken on?

Asked by WillWorkForChocolate (23163points) January 26th, 2012

Almost every actor/actress has a role they never should have taken. What are some of the worst ones, in your opinion?

Just name the actor/actress, and the role.

ex: Kurt Russell- Snake Plissken

Johnny Depp in Willy Wonka.

Whaaaaa
Kurt Russell was the perfect match to play Snake Plissken! I can’t imagine anyone more badass to play Plissken.

Skaggfacemutt's avatar

And who is that little, skinny guy that played Batman? Michael Keaton! Way too wimpy.

ragingloli's avatar

Al Pacino taking part in Adam Sandler’s movie scam “jack and jill”

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

Yeah Kurt was awesome as Snake. You need a chocolate infusion.

Jude's avatar

Jodie Foster in Nell.

Sorry to keep dominating this thread, but did any of you see The Tudors on Showtime? What did you think of their Henry VIII? Small, dark-complected, handsome guy. Really? They would have been more historically accurate if they had switched the actor for Henry VIII with the one that played the Duke of Buckingham.

Hain_roo's avatar

Kevin Costner as Robin Hood- terrible.

mazingerz88's avatar

Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible.

Aesthetic_Mess's avatar

Katherine Heigl in almost every big-screen movie she’s ever taken on.
Jessica Alba in Spy Kids.
Val Kilmer as Batman.
Kate Hudson in everything

Skaggfacemutt's avatar

@Aesthetic_Mess Yes, Val Kilmer doesn’t a batman make. You know who would make a really good batman – Mitt Romney!

No political slur here – he just looks like superman to me.

ragingloli's avatar

the only way romney would fight criminals (which in itself is a stretch because he is more likely to ally himself with the scum) is by buying up the crims’ business and fire all the workers.

Aesthetic_Mess's avatar

@Skaggfacemutt This
The new Superman is most definitely not Romney with a plastic smile.
But I am hijacking. I apologize.

Skaggfacemutt's avatar

@ragingloli Ha-ha! You can insult Romney all you want – he’s no friend of mine! When I say he looks like Superman, looks is where the comparison ends. He just has that plastic, frozen-smile, superman – Ken-doll look to me.

Aesthetic_Mess's avatar

Halle Berry as Catwoman
Anne Hathaway in Bride Wars Haven’t seen it, just know it was bad.

Hain_roo's avatar

@Skaggfacemutt That’s funny, I just saw this poster.

Aesthetic_Mess's avatar

@Hain_roo LOL! What a striking resemblance! no sarcasm

Also,
Steve Carell & Paul Rudd in Dinner for Schmucks. Bad roles for both of them.
Reese Witherspoon, Owen Wilson, and Paul Rudd in How Do You Know?

Skaggfacemutt's avatar

@Hain_roo Oh my heck!! I thought I was the only one in the country that saw a resemblance between Romney and Ken. Glad to see that someone agrees with me.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe Sorry babe. I just thought his acting, and all those intense, “I’m about to eat your face” looks were kinda dumb. I feel the same about his acting in that movie, that other people feel about the acting in Twilight, LOL.

MilkyWay's avatar

I don’t think the current James Bond, Daniel Craig, is all that.
I much preferred Pierce Brosnan.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate From that angle, yeah I’ll agree with you. As a mad pissed off dickhead I thought he was on.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@MilkyWay Sean Connery was better.

MilkyWay's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe Sorry, not from around my time old bean. :P

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@MilkyWay Careful, I can still take a young whippersnapper like you.:)
OOPs

MilkyWay's avatar

I need proof to believe your claims.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

Pulls up a chair and a bowl of popcorn.

MilkyWay's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate You might not get a show unless @Adirondackwannabe backs himself up ;)

Hain_roo's avatar

Diane Lane was horrible in the Perfect Storm, she couldn’t get farther from the Gloucester accent.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

I like that he addressed himself as “young whippersnapper.” I lol’d. Really.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@MilkyWay I’m 6’1 and I have 40 or 50 pounds on you. I think it’d be no contest.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate My senility showing. Maybe she could take me.

MilkyWay's avatar

I know Tae Kwon Do…
And I plan on defeating you in other ways… mwahahaha :P

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@MilkyWay That actually sounds like fun.:)

MilkyWay's avatar

You’re on!

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

I have to run now, I’ll take you on tommorrow. Live in fear.:)

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

I’m sure she’s shaking in her boots…

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

She knows me too well. She knows I’d never hurt her.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

Back to worst performances. Enough hijacking.

MilkyWay's avatar

Chicken.
I eat chicken for dinner.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

I’m having chicken tonight… just sayin’.

How about Roseanne Barr in anything she’s ever done? <shudder>

Kardamom's avatar

Dustin Hoffman in Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium.

rebbel's avatar

Tom Cruise in Gremlins

chyna's avatar

@rebbel I don’t think Tom Cruise was in Gremlins.

SuperMouse's avatar

Tom Hanks. Bruce Willis, and Morgan Freeman were all woefully miscast in Bonfire of the Vanities, Anthony Edwards was totally out of place in Top Gun, and though I love his work Phillip Seymour Hoffman was a nutty choice for Doubt. I also do not think Tom Cruise is well cast in the Mission Impossible series of films.

filmfann's avatar

Mike Myers in Inglorious Basterds
Meryl Streep and Rosanne Barr in She Devil
John Travolta and Lily Tomlin in Moment by Moment.
Sharon Stone in Diabolique
Roger Moore as James Bond
John Wayne as Genguis Khan in The Conqueror

FutureMemory's avatar

Denzel Washington as a corrupt cop in Training Day.

I just don’t buy him saying things like “What up my ni**a?”

Hain_roo's avatar

^^^
Noooo, I thought he was spot on! Really?

ragingloli's avatar

Samuel Jackson in the Star Wars prequels.

filmfann's avatar

@ragingloli You just wanted him to play Jar Jar.

Kardamom's avatar

@filmfann Oh the Horror! The Horror! ^^
