Spoiler Alert! Role Play: If you were Paul Sheldon from Misery by Stephen King would you have escaped?

Asked by auhsojsa (2516points) January 29th, 2012

What would you have done differently to assure your survival?

What would your overall survivor mode have you do to Annie Wilkes?

Also, I thought I read that in book she does kill him. But the film took the other route? Am I mistaken? I remember reading she takes his head off with an axe. But Wikipedia states the same plot as the film. I’m hoping it’s a Wikipedia error (typical) as opposed to my flawed memory.

I would have broken the window….people never seem to think of that…..

I, secretly, would have switched her sledgehammer with an inflatable one.

Yes. I will do it in the bathroom. Ask for her assistance in inserting two of her fingers up my ass to pull out the steel hard stools blocking it. I would then shut my bunghole tight enough to trap her chubby digits, pin her other arm in my left armpit, shove the whole roll of toilet paper down her throat then biting at her nose to suffocate her…and do all these while humming Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. : )

Unfortunately, I am pretty sure that I wouldn’t have escaped. I am a total wuss and would be blubbering like a baby.

I don’t think I would have tried to escape. I think I would have been too scared of it not being successful, and then really being tortured by her. However, it’s hard to really say what you would do in that situation, because it’s so hard to fathom that you would probably have to have the full experience to know what you would REALLY do!

Assuming that I’m moderately mobile, I’d see about setting up the bed to be a deadfall trap, sprung by opening the door. I’d barricade the door, at the very least. I would seek to improvise a club from the rest of the room’s furnishings. There seems to be no reasoning with the lady.

My therapist recommended the film to me when I described my marriage. I eventually escaped after several years of codependency.

Flawed memory: He kills her, not the other way around.

As for would I escape? He escapes, so I’d think I would be able to at some point, also. I think killing her with the typewriter was a wise move. After seeing the movie (the book was too chilling for me to consider how I’d have injured or maimed her)…I thought about what items in the home could have been used as weaponry. I kinda suspected I could have tripped her or electrocuted her somehow.

@SpatzieLover Thanks for clearing that up.
