Is muscle pain AFTER a virus a normal thing?

Asked by Sunnybunny (469points) February 18th, 2012

A few days ago I came down with some kind of virus with the main symptoms being congestion, fatigue, and the worst sore throat I’ve ever had. One of my kids had the same thing before I got sick so I know it wasn’t strep throat. No fever and no rash. I spent most of the last two days in bed.

Yesterday I started to feel better but by the evening I had some really sore muscles. When I got up this morning I could only hobble around. The pain is mostly in my ankles, especially the tendon at the back of my right heel, behind both knees, and the insides of my elbows. It feels a bit better after I move around but if I sit down everything is stiff and sore again when I get up. I still have a bit of a sore throat, but nothing like it was.

I never felt like this after an illness and don’t know if it is normal. Has it happened to anyone else here? I’ll call the doctor on Monday if I’m not getting better but meanwhile can someone explain what is going on?
