What does it mean when someone says that you were born with beauty?

Asked by emeraldisles (1949points) February 19th, 2012

My family and other people tell me this. Are they talking about inner beauty? I try to dresswell and have my own style. I wear makeup, dye my hair red to go along with my peaches and cream skin. I’m tall too, and have my days where I can’t stand what I see in the mirror. I have stupid insecuriities. Isn’t it better to have beauty and brains?

I’ve never heard anyone say that…perhaps they mean you were a beautiful child.

Usually, in our culture, being labeled beautiful means you have symmetrical features, a small straight nose, large and wide-spread eyes, good bone structure and a generous mouth with essentially teeth. (Like this face )

Here’s another face that stayed beautiful all her life. She (my mother) died in May at aged 96 + and people were still commenting or her appearance. Going through her effects, my sis and I found no unflattering photographs. None. It was not easy being her daughters.

She was a nice Jewish girl and never an Italian beauty. No one cared.

You can work on what you call “stupid insecurities” by talking with a therapist. He or she will help unravel the issues surrounding your anxieties.

Just so you’re aware… not that I believe this about you for even a second… but you shouldn’t be caught unaware if it does apply…

Often times when your (loving) family compliments you about a trait that you have: beauty, brains, drive and determination, friendliness, helpfulness… whatever… they often mean (but would never be so unkind as to say aloud!) ... “and that’s about it; so make the most of that gift, because it’s pretty much all you’ve got.”

Accept the kind words; don’t let it go to your head (or confuse you) – and keep working diligently on your schoolwork. (I would much rather be praised for a character trait than a physical one, but our gifts are what they are. You have to play the cards you were dealt.)

Ask them. I have seen several people I would consider naturally beautiful from a physical standpoint – my sister for instance.

I would take it to mean that you are naturally beautiful and do not derive your beauty from make up.

Well I asked and they just said I have a different kind of beauty, not something you would see everyday.I’m irish, italian, english, and canadian French. I look more Irish than anything. Sometimes I think its laughable because I have smaller hazel eyes unless I do wear eye makeup.I have rd hair that’s artifial, peaches and cream skin, strong bone structure. They said I look like a doll.Again, would rather be smart.

this mostly means that you’re pretty. simple as that. because generally when people talk of beauty, it refers to the outside appearance. Nothing to be confused about. whenever you are complimented about this, then just be gracious and say thank you.
